After his encounter with Yugi at the museum, Shadi decides to test the boy and his new-found power. However, in order to see what Yugi is capable of, he rounds up his friends and places them in danger. Yugi has no choice but to go along with Shadi's plan.

- 2D Visuals, 3D Effects: While Yugi's running up to the roof, the shots are done in CG.
- Brainwashed and Crazy: Anzu is a tamer example, but Honda acts like this, madly swinging a broom around.
- Empty Eyes: Honda and Anzu have this happen to this when Shadi is controlling them. The apparition of Jounouchi has these as well.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Yami Yugi refuses to roll the Millennium Puzzle and make Jounouchi's apparition walk off the edge. This makes the apparition refuse to make the final roll and disappear.
- Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Shadi can't understand how Yugi and his friends can support one another. His failure to understand the meaning of friendship is what destroys the statue supporting the Ankh.
- Kick the Dog: Jounouchi's apparition taunts Yugi more-or-less the way he used to as Yugi's bully.
- Mind-Control Device: Shadi uses the Millennium Ankh to control Honda and Anzu.
- Mind-Control Eyes: When Yugi locks eyes with the possessed Anzu, they're the same color as Shadi's.
- Sink or Swim Mentor: Shadi's method of seeing Yugi's power are... questionable to say the very least.
- That Man Is Dead: A rather wholesome variation comes into play. When Shadi is certain Jounouchi's apparition of his former self will indeed make the winning move that will defeat Dark Yugi, instead, he smiles and quietly fades away. To this, Dark Yugi takes it as a sign that Jounouchi's bully-some ways have died, as the real Jounouchi would never hurt him.
- Weirder Than Usual: Anzu's strange behavior is what tells her friends that something's wrong.
- We Will Meet Again: As he leaves the school, Shadi vows that he and Yugi will meet again.
