Recap / Yu Gi Oh Arc V Ep 136 Reign Of The Supreme Dragon King

Go To

Right before Reiji and others, who believe that Yuya’s Dueling will bring peace to the world… Zarc is finally awakened. Zarc proclaims that the feelings of those who believe in Yuya have accelerated his resurrection. The Lancers’ battle against Zarc, who uses his overwhelming power to bring despair to all, has just begun.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Antagonist Title: Zarc, the titular Big Bad of the series, is the focal character for this episode.
  • All Your Powers Combined: While Supreme King Dragon Zarc was always this as a combination of the Four Dimension Dragons, the card takes this to the extreme as we see it's a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz and Pendulum monster.
  • Badass Boast: Zarc gave one to Edo and Sora at the start of his turn, telling them to prepare themselves, to remember his invincible power, which the ultimate between heaven and earth, and has surpassed both the way of kings and the way of hegemons, and realized how insufficient they are before him.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Supreme King Dragon Zarc is a mix of Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, AND Pendulum.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • Edo is able to summon a monster in time to stop Zarc from killing a bunch of nonduelists.
    • Subverted when Kurosaki and Kaito intervene in Zarc's Duel, but Edo and Sora are still defeated by the effect of Supreme King Dragon Zarc.
  • Blood Knight: Zarc's first action since his revival is to demand a duel.
  • Call-Back: Sora attempts to remind Yuya of their first duel by having Zarc explain why Mad Chimera's effect won't work like before when Scissor Bear's effect didn't work on Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon. He even calls him master.
  • Clothing Damage: This actually happens offscreen, but Yuya's transformation after being controlled by Zarc causes him to lose his shoes, cape, pendant charm, wristbands and choker. Most of his shirt has been ripped off as well by the spikes on his body, barring the portion that had his belt over it.
  • Darker and Edgier: This episode shows that the final arc is going to be even darker as Zarc attempted to actually murder people and not card them.
  • Draconic Humanoid: As a result of absorbing Yuri, Yuya transforms into a Zarc-like Eldritch Abomination.
  • Fan Disservice: Yuya becomes a Walking Shirtless Scene starting from this episode, but it's only because he has turnt into an Eldritch Abomination, as can be seen by his grey and spiky body, veiny face, demonic-looking wings and having wing-like appendages in place of ears.
  • A God Am I: Zarc never stops taking the time to tell Edo and Sora of his power and describes himself as an invincible god.
  • Grand Theft Me: An interesting variation, in which the episode preview shows that Zarc's consciousness has revived and taken over Yuya's body.
  • Hoist by Their Own Petard: Downplayed, considering that they were never told the full truth, but the fact that Zarc start his siege with the Academia and the Fusion dimension is this given that the Arc Area Projectnote  was what kickstarted the chain of events that lead to Zarc's revival.
  • Hope Spot: For a second it looked like Edo and Sora had a shot when they were able to destroy Zarc's field and lower his life points by 2000. But then Zarc revealed Astrograph Magician.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: It's hard to describe Zarc's duel against Edo and Sora as anything but this.
  • Hulking Out: Yuya; he retains his hair, goggles, belt, pants, and Duel Disk, but he has overall mutated into a draconic monstrosity, complete with Zarc's yellow eyes, a bulkier figure with spikes protruding from parts of his body, wings above each side of his face, demonic wings on his back, and a claw-shaped Duel Disk blade. See for yourself here.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Yuya has mutated into some sort of draconic/ demonic monstrosity.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Edo and Sora attempted this. Despite their attempts, Zarc coldly ignored them.
  • Japanese Pronouns: Zarc refers to himself with "ware" this time, as opposed to "ore" highlighting both how highly he thinks of himself and his origin as a duelist from First World.
  • Meaningful Name: Supreme King Dragon Zarc
  • My God, What Have I Done?: A downplayed example with Edo. While Edo has long since thrown away the Academia, he is horrified when he learned that the Arc Area Project lead to Zarc's revival.
  • Only I Can Kill Him: According to Reira, Ray once again states that only she can beat Zarc.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Zarc as both himself and his card.
  • The Stoic: Zarc. His tone never changes nor does his expression never change. It makes him feel otherworldly as a result.
  • Say My Name: As Leo still attempts to figure out why his daughter hasn't revived.
    Leo: RAY!!!
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: Zarc has these.
  • Take Up My Sword: After Sora and Edo are defeated, Sora hands Kurosaki Yuya's pendulum and begs him to free Yuya, which Kurosaki agrees to as he and Kaito continue the duel against Zarc.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: This is how Yuya as controlled by Zarc appears, for a total of 5 episodes.
  • Wham Line: "Integration Summon!" (Tōgō Shōkan in Japanese) when summoning Supreme King Dragon Zarc.
  • Wham Shot: The shot of Supreme Dragon King Zarc's card as a singular Fusion-Synchro-Xyz-Pendulum-Effect Monster, with a multicolored border to boot. This was especially surprising to the viewers because they had gotten used to Zarc's OCG card, which was simply a Fusion Pendulum Monster.
  • Winged Humanoid: The Zarc-possessed Yuya sports a pair of demonic wings on his back.
