Recap / Yu Gi Oh Arc V Ep 103 The Brilliant Mechanical Angels

Go To

Kurosaki, along with Allen and Sayaka, meets up with Yuya, Gongenzaka, Sawatari, and Kaito. Kaito teleports away, leaving Kurosaki to take the others to the Resistance's current hideout at the Duel Lodge. Allen asks why Yuya looks like Yuto and what happened to him, but Yuto asks Yuya not to tell them as they wouldn't understand. Kurosaki covers up that Yuto has gone missing and entrusted his Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon to Yuya, to bring smiles to people through dueling.

Allen tells the group that Academia's invasion began shortly after Yuto and Kurosaki left for Standard, and the duel schools that fought back were almost entirely wiped out. During the attack, Kaito's family was all carded. Yuya thinks that he was proud for reaching Jack, but he is still too immature to alleviate sadness like Kaito's. Sayaka asks if Yuya is any relation to Yusho, based on their last names, and they realize Yuya is Yusho's son. The stunned Yuya asks if they know his father, and they explain he came to the Xyz Dimension three years ago, and taught them his skills and philosophy about dueling. Yuya is excited to learn his father was not a coward like many in Standard believe, but Allen corrects he is; Yusho disappeared just before Academia invaded, and abandoned them.

Meanwhile, Yuzu arrives at the Fusion Dimension by herself. She sees a boat full of kids leaving the port and is told they're heading off to Academia to become duelists. The crowd mistakes her for a student that escaped Academia, due to her age, and call in Academia agents to apprehend her. Yuzu flees but is cornered by the three agents, who prepare to duel her. As Yuzu takes out her Duel Disk, a mysterious girl leaps in front of her and tells the agents she will duel them — Asuka Tenjoin. The three agents recognize her and decide to duel her all at once.

Asuka takes the first move and summons "Etoile Cyber" and sets a card. The first Academia agent summons "Armordog - Cannon Boxer" and uses its effect "Armordog - Bull Copter." The effect of Bull Copter lets him add Polymerization from his deck to his hand and he activates, fusing his monsters into "Full Armordog - Bull Fortress." The effect of Bull Fortress lets him discard any number of "Fusion" cards from his hand, to permanently increase its ATK by 1000; he discards one, raising it to 3000 ATK. The second agent begins his turn and performs the same combo to summon his own Bull Fortress, and discards two cards to raise it to 4000 ATK. The third agent also summons Bull Fortress and raises it to 6000 ATK.

Asuka takes her turn and activates "Machine Ancient Ritual," tributing Etoile Cyber and "Cyber Prima" from her hand to summon "Cyber Angel - Vishnu," with 3000 ATK. Vishnu's effect activates when summoned, destroying all Fusion monsters her opponents control and dealing 1000 damage to them. Vishnu is then able to attack once this turn for every monster destroyed. Vishnu attacks all three directly and defeats the agents at once.

Asuka takes Yuzu to a gondola and they introduce themselves. Asuka takes Yuzu to a secret underground dueling school for students that escaped Academia. Asuka tells Yuzu this is You Show Duel School, and takes her into a room where Yusho is sitting. At Yuzu's voice, he raises his head and smiles at her.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Action Girl: Asuka quickly establishes her credentials as a duelist by effortlessly OTK-ing three Academia agents.
  • Anti-Magic: Asuka runs a Ritual Deck designed to counter Fusion users.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Asuka arrives to save Yuzu from the Academia.
  • Big Good: Played With for Yusho. He's arrived in the Xyz Dimension and taught the dimension dueling skills and is currently the leader of the You Show faction against the Academia. But the Xyz Dimension dislikes him as he left mysteriously just before the Fusion invasion.
  • Broken Pedestal: Yusho is this to the Xyz Dimension as well. He arrived before the Academia and taught the residents dueling skills but disappeared one day.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: The Academia agents rely so thoroughly on Fusion that most of their hands are full of Fusion support cards, and they have no way to defend against Asuka's monster.
  • Defector from Decadence: The You Show school in the Fusion Dimension. Its made of Academia students that ran away.
  • Establishing Character Moment: The episode is one for Asuka; she saves Yuzu from Academia's agents by using a (meta-wise) new Cyber Angel to deal a One Turn Kill to all three of them, then takes her to meet Yusho.
  • Heroic RRoD: After suffering Electric Torture from both Roget and Sergey, and his duels with Jack and Kaito, Yuya is absolutely shattered climbing the stairs to the hideout, given that he's barely rested since the duel with Crow.
  • Lampshade Hanging: The dub has Allen note that Yuya’s hair is different from Yuto’s, leading to the assumption that he’s Yuto wearing a wig. A lot of people pointed out the resemblance between the Dimensional Counterparts wasn’t as strong as people claimed it was, precisely because of this reason.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: The Armordog cards Academia's agents use here are basically the Ancient Gear Hounddogs; an archetype of mechanical dog monsters that rely on Fusion summoning.
  • Wham Shot: The end of the episode; Yusho finally appears in person, leading a duel school in the Fusion Dimension.
