Recap / Yu Gi Oh Anime S 2 E 63 Playing With A Parasite 1

Go To

Joey meets up with Yugi and Mai to check on their respective progress in the tournament, but is dismayed to see that he has the fewest locator cards out of the three of them. He goes off looking for another opponent but gets distracted when a boy asks for his autograph. He then asks to try on Joey's duel disk, but ends up running away with it. Joey chases after him and luckily, Tristan, Tea, and Mr. Moto spot them so Tristan cuts the kid off. The kid admits that what he did was wrong but only did it because someone else stole his cards and he was desperate. He describes the guy who stole his cards in a way that makes the group realize that the culprit is none other than Weevil Underwood, so they run off to find him. Unfortunately, this was the kid's plan all along and it is revealed that Weevil bribed him with a rare card to get Joey to come and find him (though he gives the kid a common card and then blasts him with some slime when he complains). Weevil challenges Joey to a duel, but for two locator cards so the loser will be knocked out of the tournament.

Joey starts the duel strong, quickly summoning Jinzo, the card he won from Espa Roba in his last duel, and putting a nice dent in Weevil's life points. Unfortunately, Weevil's next monster is Kiseitai, a leech that attaches itself to Jinzo and ends up boosting Weevil's life points beyond where they started (getting up to 5700). Meanwhile, at the hospital, a little boy named Kenta hides in Serenity's room, scared of getting his X-rays taken. Sympathizing with his fears, Serenity doesn't turn him into the nurse and out of gratitude, Kenta logs onto the Battle City website to check out Joey's latest duel for her. Kenta is worried about Joey being in trouble with Weevil's strategies, but Serenity assures him that Joey can find a way out of whatever situation he is in. Back at the duel, Joey summons Panther Warrior, sacrificing Jinzo so it can attack and stopping Weevil's life points from increasing any further. At that point, Weevil kicks it up a notch and plays Reckless Parasite, bringing the Parasite Paracide card in Joey's deck to life, leading him to realize that the kid who stole his duel disk was in fact working for Weevil and must have slipped it in. All of Joey's monsters will now be infected by the parasite, turning them into Insect-types and prohibiting him from sacrificing them, which means his Panther Warrior can no longer attack. At this point, Weevil brings out his Larva Moth and wraps it in the Cocoon of Evolution, planning to bring out the Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth just like last time. Joey brings out another monster and attacks, but Weevil activates Insect Barrier, which stops all opposing Insect-type monsters from attacking. With Joey's monsters all turned into Insect-types thanks to the parasite, he is now completely incapable of attacking. Weevil makes the problem even worse by summoning Leghul, a monster that can always make direct attacks, to chip away at Joey's life points while he waits for his moth to transform. Once five turns are up, Weevil's Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth emerges!

Tropes

  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Joey's monsters all infected with a parasite and unable to attack and facing down Weevil's newly transformed Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth.
  • Healing Factor: Kiseitai attaches to Joey's Jinzo, causing Weevil to regain life points every turn. His Skull-Mark Ladybug also gives him a little extra boost.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Weevil's Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth is much stronger here than in Duelist Kingdom since unlike Yugi, Joey is unable to stop its development one turn early.
