Yami Bakura demands Mokuba's soulless body, threatening Tristan with banishment to the graveyard just like the guards. Tristan thinks it over and concedes to the demand—but throws Mokuba at the evil spirit, closes the gap, and punches him out. Tristan throws the Millennium Ring into the woods and drags Mokuba and Bakura back to the dueling platform, where he finds Pegasus has turned the duel into a deadly Shadow Game.
Inside the Shadow Realm, Yugi finds it hard to keep going as the game takes a toll on him mentally and physically. Pegasus ditches his silly Toons for much more frightening creatures, including the paralyzing Dark-Eyes Illusionist and the monster-absorbing Relinquished. While the Mind Shuffle strategy works to keep the Yugis safe, Pegasus eventually decides to overtax Yugi's mind by obliterating his monster. Yugi collapses, and Yami Yugi is left to fight the duel alone—fully vulnerable to Pegasus's mind-reading powers, the sole exception being a card Yugi set on his final move. To make matters worse, Pegasus summons Jigen Bakudan, an attack-resistant time bomb that will explode in two turns, taking Yami Yugi's life points with it.

- Berserk Button: Yami is pissed about what Pegasus did to Yugi.
- Boring Return Journey: On the way to rescue Mokuba, Tristan and Yami Bakura were pursued numerous times by guards. Tristan makes it back without any problems.
- Combat Pragmatist: Tristan throws Mokuba at Yami Bakura, and punches his lights out while he has his hands full.
- Darkest Hour: Yugi has collapsed, Yami Yugi is left to fight alone, Pegasus can read his mind again, and in two turns the duel will be over.Yami: (thinking) As much as I hate to admit it, I've failed. I've failed Yugi, and I've failed all his friends! Yugi's final act of sacrifice was in vain! His grandfather and both the Kaiba brothers are doomed!
- Deader than Dead: In the dub, Yami warns Yugi that his soul will be shredded to pieces if he stays in the Shadow Realm too long.
- The Dreaded:Yami: Jigen Bakudan! The infamous time bomb!
- Heroic Sacrifice: Yugi uses the last of his strength to leave one more card for Yami before he collapses.
- I Can't Sense Their Presence: After Yugi collapses.Yami: Yugi! Yugi! I can't sense his spirit. I can no longer feel the presence of his young mind. No. He...he can't be gone!
- My Significance Sense Is Tingling: Téa, Joey, and Tristan can sense Yugi's pain from outside the Shadow Realm, and it's even worse when Yugi collapses.
- Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Tristan carries the unconscious Mokuba and Bakura back to the dueling platform without getting caught by guards. While going through a maze with looping flights of stairs and doors to nowhere that even had Yami Bakura confused.
