Recap / Yu Gi Oh Anime S 1 E 31 Keiths Machinations 1

Go To

Joey's duel against Bandit Keith may be over before it even starts, as Keith secretly stole Joey's entry card, meaning he doesn't have one at all. At the very last minute, Mai gives Joey her card, and the duel commences.

Keith plays an offensive game using Machine cards, some of the rarest and most powerful Duel Monsters in the game. To make matters worse, he has crippling traps in store, and his Machines are resistant to all forms of magic. He baits Joey into attacking a non-machine monster, Zoa, but it's a trap so he can turn it into Metalzoa, which boasts an even stronger attack. It seems the duel will be over as Keith attacks... and walks right into a trap Joey laid for him! Joey further angers Keith by laying a trap so obvious there's no way it can be a trap... but it was. Furious, Keith declares that the match isn't over yet. Nobody beats Bandit Keith...

This episode contains examples of:

  • Cold Iron: Keith's machine monsters resist all magic.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Garoozis takes down Pendulum Machine and then uses Kunai with Chain to hit Launcher Spider.
  • Disqualification-Induced Victory: Keith nearly wins this way after stealing Joey's entry card, if not for Mai coming to the rescue and giving Joey hers.
  • Evil Gloating: In the English dub, after Joey turns the tables on Keith and gains the advantage, Keith boasts that Joey's traps won't hold him back forever, and that he's got bigger machine cards waiting to be played, all set to footage from the following episode. By comparison, the Japanese episode ends with Joey gaining the upper hand.
  • Nobody's That Dumb: When Joey has seemingly lost his entry card, Bakura comments he couldn't be that absentminded. Tristan retorts "Yeah, he could!".
  • Sand In My Eyes: When Mai sees Joey crying over not being able to find his entry card, he tries to deny it.
Joey: Who's crying? I got something in my eye. (sobbing) Stupid thing won't come out.
