Yugi appears to have an advantage over Kaiba, until Kaiba tricks him into destroying Saggi the Dark Clown. This unleashes his devastating Crush Card Virus, which infects and destroys all of Yugi's monsters with 1500 or more Attack in his hand and entire deck.
On top of that, Kaiba draws all three Blue-Eyes White Dragons and Polymerization, allowing him to fuse them together, forming the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon. Yugi is forced to defend continuously, as there's no way he can stand up to a monster with 4500 attack points. The situation seems hopeless, but encouragement from his friends and thoughts of his grandpa make Yugi determined to carry on.
