Go To

"A New Weather Girl and a Stay-at-Home Coddler" is an episode of Young Sheldon slated to first air May 4, 2023. According to TV Guide,

Mandy gets an exciting job opportunity and Sheldon worries that he's falling behind. Also, Georgie takes his daughter to work.

The sneak peeks show:

  • Sheldon wants to apply to graduate school. Dr. Sturgis (Wallace Shawn) and Dr. Linkletter (Ed Begley Jr.) tell Sheldon that graduate school is much more competitive than college, and that his child-prodigy status won't be as useful. Sheldon asks them why they didn't advise him earlier, but it was because Sheldon didn't like hearing others' advice.
  • Sheldon discusses his situation with Mary, and realizes that because she has been coddling him for his whole life, he doesn't know how to take initiative with his applications.
  • Mandy tells the Coopers that she received a job opportunity as a weather reporter for the local TV news station. When Mary asks about who will watch CeeCee, Mandy asks Mary to help, even though she works.
  • Mandy goes to her job interview and drops CeeCee off with Georgie. Georgie then tells CeeCee all about his room/garage.

Tropes:

  • Failed Audition Plot: Mandy auditions to be the new weather girl for the local TV station. Unfortunately, she starts lactating in the middle of her audition and makes a fool of herself as she tries to hide it.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Sheldon's not wrong when he points out that Mary's coddling of him growing up likely contributed to the inflated ego he currently possesses.
  • No Listening Skills: Sheldon asks Drs. Linkletter and Strugis why they, as his advisors, didn't warn him about graduate school being so competitive. Flashbacks show that they tried, but Sheldon arrogantly dismissed them.
