Go To

"A Brisket, Voodoo, and Cannonball Run" is an episode of Young Sheldon that first aired December 7, 2017.

Connie refuses to give George her famous brisket recipe, so George tries to ban her from their household, angering Mary.

Tropes

  • Aesop Amnesia: George and Connie put aside their differences in this episode, but continue to engage in Snark-to-Snark Combat in subsequent episodes, with Connie still disappointed in her son-in-law.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Sheldon remembers that Georgie had trouble potty training and Connie used to call him "Mr. Soggypants". Missy, naturally, starts calling him that again.
  • Food Porn: The opening displays Connie's smoked brisket being served in loving detail.
  • Grandma's Recipe: Connie's secret brisket recipe, which George is obsessed with. We see in her home that she has a bunch of other homemade recipes as well (though the brisket recipe is explicitly not written) with Georgie commenting that her French toast was also really good.
  • No Infantile Amnesia: Exploited. Sheldon remembers the brisket recipe that Connie told him when he was 23 months old, and uses it to end the feud between George and Connie.
  • Primal Scene: The Tag is Mary and George making out while baby Sheldon is in their room. Mary is worried, but George assures her Sheldon won't remember this. But nine years later, he does.
  • Shout-Out: When Sheldon explains that mothers-in-law disliking their daughter's husband is normal and rarely leads to divorce, Missy points out that Fred and Wilma are still happily married.
  • Snipe Hunt: Connie gives George what she says is her brisket recipe, but is really a fake that requires him to go to New Orleans for coffee and spices (including angelica under the name of "Holy Ghost Root" that he buys from a voodoo priestess), and cooking the whole thing continuously for fourteen hours. One taste, and he realizes he's been had. (Oh, and the coffee was for her, not the brisket.)
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After an entire episode of futilely trying to find out Connie's recipe for smoked brisket, the final shot of the episodes ends with George successfully recreating the dish from Sheldon's memory.
