Recap / Xiaolin Showdown Saving Omi

Go To

Picking up from the last episode, Omi has joined Chase Young and Master Fung is in a coma. The rest of the Xiaolin Dragons try to make sense of their situation when Dojo discovers that the Ying Yoyo, when used alone, causes the user's chi to be left in the Ying-Yang World- their good chi! In order to retrieve Omi's good chi and restore him to normal, the Dragons must find the Yang Yoyo and infiltrate Chase Young's palace.

Tropes

  • All for Nothing: The Dragons recover Omi's good chi from the Ying-Yang World and successfully turn him good again...only for Chase Young to turn him back to the Heylin Side after it's revealed Omi swore his loyalty to him.
  • Ax-Crazy: Evil Omi is a Blood Knight and this in a truly horrifying way.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Just like the last season, this season ends with Chase Young successfully forcing Omi under his heel. The Chosen Ones, minus Omi plus Jack, are forced to flee Chase's fortress.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Wuya regains her body, but Chase fixes it that she doesn't have full use of her Heylin magic.
  • Brutal Honesty: Downplayed, but Chase makes it clear that he's not going to let Wuya regain all her power because of how untrustworthy she is in the politest way he can say it. Wuya concedes he has a point.
Chase: The qualities that make you most dangerous make you, well, highly untrustworthy.
Wuya: True. I suppose I would've done the same thing.
  • Cliffhanger: The last shot of the episode has (cat) Omi walking to the front of Chase's fortress and watching the Chosen Ones flee.
  • Continuity Nod: While mentioning their disbelief that Omi had joined Chase Yong, the monks mention when Raimundo had done the same in joining Wuya.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • When Chase and Omi invade the temple, Omi completely manages to overwhelm the others, without the need for Shen Gong Wu.
    • While Kimiko shrinks down to return Omi to normal, Raimundo and Clay suffer a more prolonged one.
  • Darkest Hour: Omi is back on the Heylin Side as a cat, the world is still in chaos and the Dragons are still left vulnerable.
  • Downer Ending: Just like the last episode, but this time, the Xiaolin Dragons fail to save Omi and are forced to flee.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Omi gets that way towards the end (Heylin Power; Tsunami Water Blade; Ice)
  • Exorcist Head: Again, Omi does this. It's quite creepy.
  • Forced Transformation: Omi gets turned into a yellow cat when he choses to stay with Chase Young.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Jack is turned good because he brought the Reversing Mirror in the Ying Yang World.
  • Hope Spot: Omi's back to normal. Hooray! But he feels bound to a promise he made to Chase while evil. Oh, Crap!
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: The monks during their fight with Omi. It just gets them smacked around.
  • Lampshade Hanging:
    • Wuya points out how Chase's palace is becoming home to a lot of second-string villains these days.
    • Chase mocks Wuya for thinking he would've brought her back at full power. He doesn't intend to suffer from Eviler than Thou.
  • Oh, Crap!: Dojo is terrified once he realizes that Chase is going to use the Serpent’s Tail and Reversing Mirror to turn Wuya human again.
  • Once More, with Clarity: In the previous episode, the piece of the Ancient Scroll of the Shen Gong Wu detailing the Ying Yoyo was missing a piece. In this episode, Dojo finds the missing paper between Master Fung's toes (Having used the paper to fill a hole in the monk's sandal) which reveals that unless you have the Yang Yoyo with you, using only the Ying Yoyo to enter and leave the Ying Yang World will result in having your good chi removed. Omi using only the Ying Yoyo is what turned him evil, and Fung's coma is due to putting himself in a meditative state to keep his evil controlled.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Chase brings back Wuya to human form to better aide the Heylin Side, but makes sure she isn't at full power so she doesn't try to overpower him. Wuya even admits that if their positions were reversed she would have done the same thing to him.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Omi is at his absolute worst when fighting Rai and Clay; this combined with a frightening Slasher Smile freezes up Clay for a second.
  • Run or Die: Faced with Chase, Omi's transformation, and a large group of Chase's followers, Dojo immediately flies the others away.
  • Wild Card: Raimundo more or less admits he's this, saying that if money had been put down as to who among the monks would turn evil (in his case, again), he'd have bet on himself.
  • Wolverine Claws: Omi's Tsunami Water Blade technique gives him giant claws made of ice.
  • Your Princess Is in Another Castle!: The monks manage to return Omi's good chi, turning the Dragon of Water to normal. Unfortunately, while evil, Omi swore loyalty to Chase Young, and the monk's Honor Before Reason can't let him recant it. In short, Omi is returned to his normal morality, but is still in Chase's thrall.
