Recap / Xiaolin Showdown "Citadel of Doom"

Go To

With Omi stuck in the past, the remaining Xiaolin Dragons (And Jack) are captured by Wuya. Meanwhile, Raimundo is starting to realize that having all the luxuries you can ask for is meaningless when you're all alone...

Tropes

  • Big "NO!": Wuya gets two when confronted with Dashi's spirit. The first is when she loses her body and the second is as she is pulled into the new puzzle box.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Raimundo finally chooses to return to the side of good and imprisons Wuya in the puzzle box, and saves the world, but he has a long way to go before he regains the trust of his friends and turns down being made a Xiaolin apprentice when offered until he proves he is ready, and unbeknownst to the monks Katnappe has found the puzzle box.
  • Breaking Old Trends: This is the first episode of the series to not have a Xiaolin Showdown.
  • Call-Back: When Raimundo opens the puzzle box and releases Dashi's spirit, the first thing Dashi says to Wuya is, "The years have not been kind." the same thing Dojo said in "The Journey of a Thousand Miles".
  • Delayed "Oh, Crap!": When Jack and Omi are unable to open the puzzle box to seal Wuya in, they hear a voice offering to help them open it, which they cheerfully accept before realizing that it's Wuya.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Wuya assumes that she has earned Raimundo's loyalty by giving him material possessions, not realizing that his friends are what he truly desires.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: Raimundo wonders why Clay and Kimiko are fighting golems until he realizes that they were just a diversion.
  • Harmless Freezing: A somewhat downplayed example, as while the freezing doesn’t have any long-term consequences, Omi still feels very cold for a short while afterward.
  • Heel–Face Turn: When Wuya asks Raimundo what he wants, he chooses his friends and seals her away back in the puzzle box, saving the world as a result.
    Raimundo: I want my friends.
  • Human Popsicle/The Slow Path: Omi freezes himself to get back to the present.
  • Jaw Drop: Kimiko, Clay, Dojo, and Jack have this reaction when they learn of Omi's method to return to the present.
  • Lonely at the Top: Raimundo realizes that his betrayal has alienated his friends—he's got all the material goods he's ever wanted, but he doesn't have anyone to enjoy it with.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Raimuno feels genuine remorse towards the end of the episode for performing a Face–Heel Turn four episodes ago and nearly causing 10 millenniums of darkness.
Raimundo: Guys, guys, I did a lot of damage. So I got to do whatever it takes to make it right again.
  • Once an Episode: Averted, as no showdown occurs here.
  • Passed-Over Promotion: Master Fung offers Raimundo the sash of a Xiaolin Apprentice, but the latter refuses because he isn't ready for Apprentice Level moves yet. He eventually becomes one in "Pandatown".
  • Redemption Rejection: Jack goes back to being evil at the end. His offer for ice cream off the clock never occurs, unfortunately.
  • Sequel Hook: So Rai is back on the side of good, Wuya has been resealed...wait, what is Katnappe doing there with the puzzle box!?
  • Smooch of Victory: Kimiko gives one to Raimundo when he returns to the side of good by imprisoning Wuya, thus saving the world.
  • World-Healing Wave: After Wuya is defeated, one appears that changes the desolate wasteland into lush Earth.
