Tropes

  • Conjoined Twins: Gabrielle and Aphrodite pretend to be conjoined twins from Sweden. In a twist, it turns out that Castor and Pollux are actual conjoined twins. The gig is up when Aphrodite raises both of their hands in victory.
  • Continuity Snarl: A year earlier, Castor and Pollux appeared on Young Hercules. There, the fraternal twins were not conjoined, and Castor was ultimately murdered off-screen by Lucius.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Daphne eventually remembers what happened to her mother; when she fell into the water, her mother went in after her. Only Daphne survived.
  • Knows the Ropes: Gabrielle is shown to be skilled with using a rope as a whip. She even made use of it when on fire.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: Tharon wears a mask to cover his scarred face, a figured caused by Xena in the past.
  • Many Spirits Inside of One: When Xena said she would switch places with the girl in a heartbeat, Aphrodite quickly took up on that offer. The problem is, she didn't know what she was doing, only transferred Xena into Daphne's body and she doesn't know how to fix it.
  • Mud Wrestling: A disguised Gabrielle and Aphrodite tango with Castor and Pollux in a ring laced with oil. Only Gabrielle has a problem with this.
  • Race Against the Clock: After getting Xena stuck in Daphne's body, Aphrodite reveals that they have to get her back in her own body before sundown, or she'll be stuck there forever.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When cornered by Sandor and his minions, Gabrielle didn't take kindly to how Aphrodite kept on giving away Xena's condition. Aphrodite responds by teleporting out of the cave.
    Gabrielle: Testy too.
  • Staircase Tumble: Xena-possessed Daphne does this to both Sandor and later Tharon.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Gabrielle and Aphrodite throughout the episode. The goddess of love would rather not do any manual labor even though she was the one who caused the spell in the first place.
  • Waif-Fu: Daphne when Xena takes control of her body. Slightly justified as Xena shares all of her knowledge and abilities. Less so when it comes to where her strength came from.
