When a bounty hunter is murdered in her mother’s tavern, Discord (now the Goddess of Retribution) demands Xena hand over the killer. Xena must become a detective to identify the killer before sunrise, but all the suspects are her family and friends.

- Bestiality Is Depraved: Minya implies that Discord has a thing for horses.
- Bounty Hunter: Ravenica.
- Continuity Nod: Joxer's awful cooking returns.
- Friend to All Living Things: Minya's possible motivation is due to Ravenica's horrible treatment of animals.
- Happy Birthday to You!: The tune is used but with made up lyrics.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Joxer is willing to make one for Gabrielle when she’s accused of being the murder.
- Hidden Heart of Gold: Autolycus attempts to hide the fact that he tried to talk Ravenica out of pursuing Xena and even sneaks a diamond to Xena’s mother (denying it though).

- Mistaken Identity: Joxer is mistaken for Jett at one point.
- Noodle Incident: Autolycus actually had a history with Ravenica before she became a ruthless bounty hunter.
- Not Me This Time: A non-villainous example, Xena has to explain to Gabrielle that for once she didn’t kill anyone.
- Surprise Party: What the characters are all trying to do at the start of the episode. Unfortunately, Gabrielle (whose birthday it is, albeit not until tomorrow), isn’t actually with Xena when she arrives.
- Thicker Than Water: Joxer proves loyal enough to Jett to take his wanted poster from Ravenica (though one wonders what he hoped to accomplish by doing so).
- "Wanted!" Poster: Three are shown.
