Proteus manages to track down his father, and Professor X may be the only one who can help.
Tropes:
- Adaptational Angst Upgrade: In the comic version of events, Wolverine recovered from what Proteus did to him thanks to a bit of impromptu enraging from Cyclops to get him back on his feet. Since Cyclops isn't here, that doesn't happen, and Wolverine remains psychologically crippled for the remainder of the story.
- Adaptational Nice Guy: Downplayed. While not the abusive husband he was in the comics, Joseph is a rather greedy politician who doesn't want it to get out that he's divorced.
- Big Fancy House: Joe Mactaggert's got a big, swish looking mansion for his current family to live in.
- Break the Badass: Proteus does what no other villain on the show does; he destroys Wolverine, so much so he can't even face him a second time.
- Earn Your Happy Ending: Proteus reconciles with both his father and his mother, with the former apologizing to him.
- Jerkass: Joe Mactaggert walked out on Moira and his son, then remarried with kids. He's got the gall to run as a "family man" with a straight face.
- No Party Given: Joe Mactaggert's political affiliation isn't given.
- Shoot the Dog: Towards the end, Moira thinks the only way to stop Proteus is to destroy him, much as she really rather wouldn't.
- Spared by the Adaptation: Unlike the comics, Proteus doesn't die, neither does Joseph.
