Sauron kidnaps Storm and brings her to the Savage Land, in order to use her powers free an evil god known as Garrok.
- A Day in the Limelight: Unlike many other cases, this arc is dedicated to highlighting Sauron, or should we say Karl Lykos.
- Apologetic Attacker: Karl needs other's energy to sustain himself, but he feels just awful about it and apologizes to the random people he grabs.
- Brainwashed and Crazy: Sauron briefly mind-controls Rogue against her fellow heroes. Fortunately, soaking her in water undoes it. Unfortunately, the real target is Storm, the omega-level mutant.
- Continuity Nod: A great big one to the last time our heroes went to the Savage Land.
- Fastball Special: It's literally called that, when Wolverine gets Beast to hurl him at one of Sauron's pterodactyl riders.
- Foreshadowing: Zaladane gives Karl access to a ship previously belonging to Magneto. One of the preprogrammed destinations is Asteroid M.
- "I Can't Look!" Gesture: After getting caught off guard by Sauron's Hypnotic Eyes in New York, Rogue does this during their rematch in the Savage Land. It leaves her open to a flip by Sauron.
- Kidnapped for Experimentation: Ka-Zar has already met Karl, considering him a friend and surprised to learn he's Sauron. Karl explains his transformations are the results of Mr. Sinister using him as a test subject for one of his experiments.
- Kindhearted Cat Lover: Big cats at least. Wolverine dogpiles Zabu and scratches him under the chin.
- Oh, Crap!: Karl, after realizing the latest guy he tried to feed on in New York is a mutant (Wolverine, to be precise).
- Pet the Dog: Wolverine mistook Karl for a guy that couldn't afford to buy a hot dog, so he got him one.
- Shout-Out: This Sauron was obviously named after that guy from The Lord of the Rings - interestingly, it's more of a Split Personality of Karl Lykos, which means he has more in common with Gollum.
- This Is Gonna Suck: Riding a pterodactyl, Jubilee has this reaction after being the only one left to stop Sauron from flying off.
- Transformation Sequence:
- Karl Lykos inadvertently turns back into Sauron, in a sequence worthy of the Incredible Hulk.
- Storm gets one that's completely redone from that time she summoned her silver suit in the first episode.
- The Worf Effect: Storm happens to be one of the few omega-level mutants in the show, which is precisely why Sauron is goaded into abducting her... by Garrok.
- Written-In Absence: According to Beast, the rest of the team is unreachable on Muir Island and thus can't even be told about Storm's abduction.Wolverine: Studyin' Jeanie like a lab rat.
