Recap / X Men Evolution S 3 E 12 Dark Horizon Part 1

Go To

Rogue falls under the mind control of Mesmero and is used as a weapon to absorb the mutant abilities of every X-Man, Brotherhood, and Acolyte member. The three factions reluctantly cooperate and find out that Mesmero wants Rogue to give all of her stolen abilities to Apocalypse to awaken him.

Tropes included:

  • Crazy-Prepared: Mesmero's plan was for Rogue to absorb the various powers and wipe the memories of the fights to cover tracks. It might've worked (and did on the X-Men and the Brotherhood), but Magneto's base had security cameras in place that no one outside the group knew about.
  • Enemy Mine: The X-Men have to team up with the Acolytes and the Brotherhood to stop Mesmero's plan. This is particularly grating for Wolverine and Sabretooth.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Averted. Pietro spots Rogue's shadow on the wall just before she attacks him. Not that it does him much good.
    • Downplayed when Rogue attacks the Acolytes. When Magneto comes across his fellow incapacitated Acolytes, he nearly trips over Gambit, but he is too late to see that the real Gambit is lying up against a box.
  • Only Sane Man: Gambit keeps Wolverine and Sabretooth from fighting it out and instead focused on the task at hand.
  • Properly Paranoid: Gambit suspects Rogue isn't acting alone and guesses Mystique is nearby.
  • Silent Antagonist: Rogue throughout much of the episode. She only talks once in the car with Mystique and later to Gambit during a fight.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Once Rogue corners Toad, and he realizes he has no way out, he closes his eyes and braces himself.
    Toad: I hate this part.
