Season 1, Episode 3 of X-Men: Evolution.
When Rogue accidentally triggers her mutant ability by absorbing a local boy's memories, strengths, and abilities via mere skin contact, the X-Men head off to Caldecott County, Mississippi to recruit her. However, Mystique isn't willing to let her out of her sights because she wants her to become one of them, so she and Destiny get to Rogue first to convince her that X-Men are hunting her.
Tropes included:
- Air-Vent Passageway: Played with. When the group is testing out the security of the mansion, Wolverine is able to go to many parts of the mansion through the vents, and suggests something be done about them later.
- Attack Its Weak Point: Storm says the point of Wolverine's run against the security system was to teach the younger X-Men about this.
- Batman Gambit: Mystique attacks Rogue disguised as various X-Men in order to keep her from siding with them.
- Bittersweet Ending: Rogue slips through the team's reach and Mystique is certain she's in the Brotherhood's fold, but Rogue still has the communicator that Jean gave her. On a more positive note, Kitty is no longer scared of Nightcrawler.
- Knockout Gas: Commenting on how vulnerable the vents are, Wolverine suggests electrifying them and installing poison gas sprayers. When told that's too extreme, he begrudgingly suggests this.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Kitty's attempt to tackle Rogue from behind wrecks Nightcrawler's attempt to get through to her and causes Rogue to accidentally absorb his powers and memories.
- Pass the Popcorn: Nightcrawler’s munching on a big bowl of popcorn while Wolverine deomstrates a training exercise. He's also upside-down the entire time.
- Power Incontinence: A given for Rogue, but we also see her struggle to control the various skills and powers she absorbs.
- Properly Paranoid: Xavier suspects a certain someone was interfering with their efforts to get to Rogue. Wolverine confirms he can smell Mystique's scent.
