As Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler) adapts to his new home at the Xavier Institute, Mystique attempts to spy on the facility with a young boy who has toad-like powers.
Tropes included:
- Coin Walk Flexing: In the Cold Open, Scott is practicing doing a coin walk while watching a football game, but he drops the coin. When he goes under the bleachers to retrieve it, he finds Jerk Jock Duncan bullying Toad, who has been pickpocketing people watching the game.
- Early-Installment Weirdness: In a moment of panic, Kurt teleports himself and Toad into The Danger Room. His subsequent reaction suggests that he hadn't yet been told about The Danger Room, so he shouldn't have been able to teleport there (since he obviously would need to have a destination in mind when using his powers).
- Gas Leak Cover Up: After Scott Summers accidentally provokes a fire at a football game, Professor Xavier rewrites the memory of a nearby cop into thinking it was a leak in a propane tank.
- In the Hood: Kurt wears one in his introduction.
- Welcome Episode: Technically for everyone, since this is the pilot, but specifically for newcomer Kurt.
