After-Episode Skit: Be Happy (song)

Widget Gets the Blooey Blues is an episode of Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! and the final new episode to air in 2006. This episode deals with depression, as Widget starts a trek to the Despair Event Horizon after she fails to fix her latest invention (depression in this series is known as the Blooey Blues). Wubbzy and Walden go into her room, located in her workshop, and try to cheer her up.

This episode includes examples of:

  • Advanced Tech 2000: The Happy Hopper 3000 and the Super Net-Thrower 3000
  • An Aesop: Three of them, in fact:
    • It's Okay to Cry.
    • Don't assume the worst about something when things go wrong.
    • Everyone makes mistakes, and you don't have to feel too sad when it does.
  • Bungling Inventor: Widget becomes so tired of all her inventions failing that she gives up inventing altogether. In fact, she gives up on doing anything at all and just lays in bed.
  • Cheer Up Episode: Widget has the Blooey Blues in this episode, and her best friends try to cheer her up.
  • Clown Car: To try to lift Widget’s mood, Wubbzy and Walden put on a whole clown routine for her, beginning with climbing out of a tiny car.
  • Conspicuously Light Patch: The only book on Walden’s bookshelf that isn’t a light brown color that blends in with the shelves is a light purple joke book. It also happens to be the one he grabs to use for cheering up Widget.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Widget was dangerously close to crossing it.
  • Dodgy Toupee: The news reporter’s hair goes flying as he Screams Like a Little Girl and runs away from the Happy Hopper.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: The Blooey Blues, which are described as “...when you feel really, really sad and don’t feel like doing anything. You don’t even feel like playing”, is clearly meant to teach kids about depression.
  • Everyone Laughs Ending: Everyone laughs at the end of the episode as Widget’s Super Net-Thrower accidentally throws a net onto the three of them.
  • Finishing Each Other's Sentences:
Walden: [to Widget] Don’t lose your confidence just because one machine is -
    Wubbzy: A dud!
  • Goofy Print Underwear: A police officer is so surprised to see the Happy Hopper jumping through Wuzzleburg that his pants fall down, revealing red polka dot-covered boxers.
  • In a Single Bound: Widget’s Happy Hopper 3000 is supposed to do this in order to reach things that are high up, but she can’t even get it to turn on. However, once Wubbzy puts the batteries back in the machine, it finally begins working exactly as she had said it would.
  • Laugh Track: One plays as Wubbzy and Walden unsuccessfully try getting Widget to crack a smile by reading jokes out of the Official Wuzzleburg Joke Book.
  • Literal Metaphor: Were you ever sad and someone came by and told you "you feel a little blue?" Wuzzleburg's version of depression makes your skin turn blue - enough said.
  • Mini-Mecha: The Happy Hopper is a jumping robot that is operated from a cockpit on top.
  • Mistakes Are Not the End of the World: Widget learns in this episode that it’s okay if things don’t work out the way you planned them to and that you shouldn’t give up just because you made a mistake.
  • Net Gun: Widget’s Super Net-Thrower 3000 is a vehicle with one of these attached.
  • No Time to Explain: When Wubbzy gets carried off by the Happy Hopper, Walden gets Widget out of bed by telling her Wubbzy’s in trouble but there’s not time to explain.
  • Pie in the Face: Wubbzy does this to Walden as part of their clown routine. In response, Walden pulls the Squirting Flower Gag on him.
  • Professional Voice Dissonance: While on the job, the news reporter’s voice sounds as deep and professional as you would expect. However, he reveals his real voice, which is nasally and high-pitched, while talking to the cameraman that’s offscreen.
  • Squeaky Eyes: When Wubbzy tries to cheer Widget up with a silly dance, all she does is blink at him.
  • Too Upset to Create: Widget loses her interest in building and creativity when she has the Blooey Blues.
