Recap / Work It Out Wombats S 1 E 30 Harvest Day Thankfulness Stew

Go To

Airdate: November 13, 2023

Both episodes contain the following tropes:

  • Thanksgiving Episode: As close as you can get, anyway, since both of these episodes revolve around a holiday that celebrates thankfulness and ends with a big feast.
  • You Mean "Xmas": Harvest Day is an obvious stand-in for Thanksgiving.

"The Treeborhood Harvest Day": The Treeborhood Harvest Day might be cancelled due to fog, so it's up to Zadie and Malik to find Mr. E's fog goggles.

"The Treeborhood Harvest Day" contains the following tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: The characters manage to make the fog go away by saying "Fog, fog, go away"....only for it to come back seconds later.
  • Blow That Horn: Kit blows a horn to let the Treeborhood know when it is Harvest Day, since the date changes every year.
  • Continuity Nod: Mr. E has 64 boxes of Sparkle Mitts in his underground storage facility.
  • Drama Queen: Mr. E has a meltdown again when he can't find the fog goggles.
Mr. E: I am upset. Vexed! Annoyed! Whose idea was fog? Is there any excuse for fog? THERE IS NOT! YOU LISTEN TO ME, FOG! NOT ONLY ARE YOU RUINING HARVEST DAY, BUT YOU'VE STUCK ME WITH FOG GOGGLES I CAN'T SELL OR EVEN FIND!
  • Goggles Do Something Unusual: Mr. E sells fog goggles that enable the wearer to see through fog.
  • Insert Song: While most of the songs in the series are sung in the in-between segments, this episode has all of the characters singing a song about Harvest Day in the episode itself.
  • Meaningful Name: Mr. E has an underground storage facility called the Deep Six, which is six floors below the ground; also, to "deep six" something means to get rid of it, which relates to how Mr. E uses the Deep Six to store items that don't sell.
  • That Makes Me Feel Angry: JunJun briefly sings "This fog is so bad / It is making me sad."
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Kat has this reaction when the fog comes back.
    Kit: Oh no, it's back.
Kat: You gotta be kidding me...

"The Treeborhood Thankfulness Stew": Zeke attempts to make a thankfulness stew that reaches Mr. E's high standards.

"The Treeborhood Thankfulness Stew" contains the following tropes:

  • Call-Back: The episode has Louisa recall the events of "Bake It Til You Make It"
  • Chekhov's Gun: In "The Treeborhood Harvest Day," Super wears a hat. In this episode, she uses that hat to put names inside it, to decide who is going to be the taste tester.
  • Crowd Song: The episode ends with everyone singing the harvest day song.
  • Fictional Sport: The side plot of this episode involves the characters playing in the Treeborhood Thankfulness Bowl. It involves the characters hitting a ball while saying something they're thankful for.
  • Food End: Towards the end of the episode, everyone digs into the stew.
  • "Good Luck" Gesture: Mr. E crosses his fingers in the hopes that he will be the taste tester...and sure enough, he does get picked.
  • "Hell, Yes!" Moment: Mr. E is ecstatic when he gets picked to be the taste tester, and jumps several feet into the air. It's one of his happiest moments in the show.
  • Immediate Sequel: This episode takes place immediately after "The Treeborhood Harvest Day."
  • Jaw Drop: Mr. E does this when Zeke gets picked to cook the stew, and does an even bigger one when Zeke picks Louisa to be his helper.
  • Rule of Three: Mr. E has three requirements for making the perfect stew: the vegetables need to be in bite-sized pieces, the stew can't be too thick or too thin, and the veggies must be fully cooked, so they're soft enough for a fork to stick into them.
  • Water Hose Rodeo: Kit rides on a water hose while washing the vegetables.
