Go To

Original airdate: July 22nd, 2015

Becky Knows Best: TJ enters the school writing contest. This part's associated vocabulary words are "certain" and "compatible".

As Something as Something: Seymour Smooth has a new game show to steal other people's valuable items. This part's associated vocabulary words are "clutter" and "simile".

"Becky Knows Best" contains the following tropes:

  • And This Is for...: After Ms. Question accidentally hits Brent with her question marks, Chuck fires his condiment ray at her, saying that "this is for what [she] did to Brent."
  • Big Brother Instinct: Finding out Ms. Question was using her powers on Chuck to get him out of the way is enough to get the mild-mannered Brent to start yelling at her.
  • Buffy Speak: While grumbling about how she's ruining his creative flow while he's trying to be a master wordsmith, TJ describes Becky as "all talky and everything".
  • Declarative Finger: Bob does this as he scolds Becky for writing TJ's story without his permission.
  • Defensive "What?": Becky gives Bob one when he glares at her for preparing to secretly write TJ's story for him.
  • Finger Wag: Chuck does this when he's about to tell Brent about how Ms. Question used her powers to force him to commit crimes.
  • Finish Dialogue in Unison:
    • TJ does this when Becky starts to tell him the story about how she's not allowed to enter the school writing contest.
Becky: Oh, hey, you want to hear a funny story? I've won so many times the school made me—
TJ: ...made you retire from the contest. I know, I know.
    • Ms. Question and Brent do it on their date at the park.
Ms. Question: Brent, why does the day seem sunnier when I'm with you?
      Brent: Is it because...
      Both: ...we're so compatible?
  • Is the Answer to This Question "Yes"?:
Ms. Question: Do you like to cut the crust of your sandwiches, too?
Brent: Does a cow go moo?
  • Long List: Becky's "very short list" of story ideas for TJ she came up with is longer than she is.
  • Never My Fault: When Chuck accidentally hits Brent in his attempt to get back at Ms. Question for her accidentally hitting him with her question marks, he yells, "Look what you made me do!".
  • Portmanteau: For his picnic date with Ms. Question, Brent makes a lunch meat combo of bologna and salami that he calls "bolami".
  • Romantic Spoonfeeding: As Brent and Ms. Question get to know each other at the sandwich shop, Brent says that sour pickles make him pucker. Ms. Question feeds him a pickle to see this in action.
  • Say My Name: Chuck and Ms. Question do this with Brent when the latter takes Ms. Question's attack for Chuck.
  • Taking the Bullet: When an angry Ms. Question shoots confusion-inducing question marks at Chuck, Brent jumps in the way of them.

"As Something as Something" contains the following tropes:

  • Astonishingly Appropriate Interruption: This bit when WordGirl is looking for the garbage truck with her box of things in it.
WordGirl: I just hope we're not too late to save our stuff. If we are, I'll just be— [sees the garbage truck in the process of crushing the box] crushed.
  • Brick Joke: During Seymour's game show, Mrs. Botsford and the other contestant win an ocean cruise to the land-locked state of Nebraska. At the very end of the episode, they're shown at the dock, waiting for the ocean liner that'll never show up.
  • Coincidental Broadcast: Just as Mrs. Botsford mentions the new game show "As Something as Something" while cleaning out the attic, a nearby old TV in a box starts showing the show.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: When Mr. Botsford gives Becky two differently marked boxes for things she wants to keep and things she wants to throw away, he makes a point of saying that they're exactly the same in every other way. Exactly. The. Same.
  • Sensing You Are Outmatched: When WordGirl shows up to point out how unfair his game show is and turn his audience against him, Seymour decides that the best course of action is to let his latest contestants have their stuff back to avoid punishment, trick them into giving him back the valuables in private later, and abscond with the riches he already has while WordGirl is distracted by a ploy of his.
  • Shaped Like Itself: As Becky and Mr. Botsford are reminiscing about their second trip to the water park with the help of similes, Mr. Botsford recalls that "the sun was as hot as the sun."
  • Tempting Fate: Right after Seymour compliments himself on getting away from WordGirl and calls himself as slick as grease, his rocket-powered golf cart slows to a near halt due to WordGirl catching up to him and grabbing it.
  • We Will Meet Again: After WordGirl catches up with the defeated Seymour, he yells at her that she hasn't heard the last of Seymour Orlando Smooth. She drops him in prison before he can even finish the sentence.
