Go To

Original airdate: June 13th, 2008

"Two-Brains Forgets": Dr. Two-Brains accidentally finds out that WordGirl's secret identity is Becky and visits her house to prove his discovery. This part's associated vocabulary words are "quarrel" and "identity".

"Banned on the Run": Mr. Big forcibly takes over as Fair City's mayor and bans WordGirl and Captain Huggyface from the city. This part's associated vocabulary words are "ban" and "restore".

"Two-Brains Forgets" contains the following tropes:

  • Animal Reaction Shot: Bob gives a face palm when Becky exposes her flying ability, being the only person - or chimp, in this case - to do so.
  • Cover-Blowing Superpower: In order to expose Becky, Dr. Two-Brains yanks the tablecloth, which causes all the dishes and silverware to fly off. Becky instantly flies up and catches everything, only for her family to discover that she is WordGirl since she's flying.
  • Does This Make Me Look Fat?: One of the people Dr. Two-Brains hears through his giant mechanical ear is a woman asking "Does this dress make me look fat?"
  • Evil Gloating: Dr. Two-Brains captures the Botsford family and brings them to his lair, where he explains to them about his big ray that will make Becky forget she's WordGirl.
  • Face Palm: Bob does one when Becky floats in mid-air after catching some falling dishes, silverware and cups, thus revealing her superhero identity.
  • Fan Disillusionment: TJ doesn't react very well upon learning WordGirl and Becky are one and the same, going as far as to throw away all his WordGirl-themed merchandise. He goes back to loving Wordgirl again after getting memory wiped.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: At the end of the episode, TJ inadvertently redirects the amnesia ray to hit a mirror when attempting to hit Wordgirl with a boomerang, with the resulting reflected rays multiplying and hitting everyone except for WordGirl and Captain Huggyface. This includes Dr. Two-Brains, who outright forgets his mouse brain and various inventions (this is reverted in later episodes, of course).
  • Lucky Rabbit's Foot: This is one of several WordGirl-themed items TJ throws out after being disgusted by the hero he loves being the sister he hates.
  • Master of Delusion: Dr. Two-Brains goes to the Botsfords' house and proposes numerous pieces of evidence as to their daughter being WordGirl (you never see both of them in the same room at the same time, they both have similar monkey sidekicks...). He does manage to make Becky slip up and reveal her secret identity by accident, though this is all reverted via Laser-Guided Amnesia at the end of the episode.

"Banned on the Run" contains the following tropes:

  • Blatant Lies: Mr. Big forces Scoops to write only positive stories about him for the Daily Rag, with the one he shows Becky being about him discovering the moon. Obviously the moon would have been so well-known beforehand it'd be impossible for anyone to discover it again.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Mr. Big uses one that fools even WordGirl, even though the "disguise" is just a fake moustache and top hat.
  • Persona Non Grata: Mr. Big, once he becomes mayor, bans WordGirl and Captain Huggyface from the city. This doesn't stop WordGirl from trying to stop him, obviously.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The episode gets its name from the Paul McCartney song "Band on the Run".
  • Tyrant Takes the Helm: Mr. Big mind-controls the mayor into forfeiting his occupation and takes his place, thus allowing him to make all sorts of silly laws and make the citizens miserable.
