The Beginning is 'Wonderful'! is the first episode of Wonderful Pretty Cure!.

Komugi, a Papillon puppy living in Animal Town, misses her owner Iroha when she goes to school.

Tropes:

  • Butt Biter: Komugi tries to stop Iroha from leaving the house by biting onto her rear.
  • Dream Sequence: While waiting for Iroha to come home, Komugi dreams about becoming a human, and having Iroha taken away from her by her finding new human friends along with going back to being a dog.
  • Failed a Spot Check: After hearing about the Mirror Stone's legend that your wish will come true if your reflection shows, Komugi clearly tries it, thinking about her wish to be human, but looks away when it doesn't immediately show her reflection, so failing to notice it has.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Two girls Komugi sees out of the window as she's lamenting how she can't follow Iroha to school are wearing Komugi and Iroha's distinctive outfits, with one having a ponytail and the other having straight hair.
    • The 'new human friends' that Iroha runs towards in Komugi's dream look very similar to Mayu and Yuki's human form, and Komugi sees herself with Iroha talking to her as a human, with Komugi's lines being silent.
  • Gratuitous English: The mat at the Inukais' front door reads "WELCOME!" in English.
  • Holding Hands: Komugi's dreams shows her desire to be much closer to Iroha, and be more than just her dog.
  • Humanity Ensues: Komugi's pure devotion to Iroha allows her to turn into a human (and by extension, a Pretty Cure) just to protect her.
  • Late for School: Iroha has to rush off after breakfast because she's running late for school. What makes this unusual is that it's more she's on time if she was going normally, but forgot she volunteered to do something before school started.
  • The Mind Is a Plaything of the Body: Played with; While Komugi might look human and has no problem moving like one, her mentality is that of a dog, telling the Garugaru that if it doesn't behave it won't get a treat and thinking it's playing Tag when it runs away.
  • Mundane Wish: When talking about the Mirror Stone, Iroha states that her current wish would be to end up in the same class as Satoru since they couldn't talk much the previous year due to being in different classes. The preview for Episode 8 shows Satoru's seat is the window seat right behind hers.
  • Mythology Gag: Mayu's family owns this series' Pretty Holic, a store that has reoccured in Pretty Cure through Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure (owned by Sango's family), Delicious Party♡Pretty Cure (frequented by Kokone), and Hirogaru Sky! Pretty Cure (frequented by Ageha).
  • Ocular Gushers: Iroha gets cartoony tear gushers when Komugi once again latches on to her to prevent her from leaving.
  • One-Steve Limit: Mrs. Inukai's first name is Youko, one letter off from fellow Cure mom Yoko.
  • Pink Heroine: Cure Wonderful is a pink leader Cure, returning to Pretty Cure tradition after Cure Sky shook things up a bit.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: Komugi's brown hair turns pink with blonde highlights as Cure Wonderful. She is the 8th pink Cure to have a hair colour other than pink, after Cure Butterfly, Cure Miracle, Cure Flora, Cure Heart, Cure Peach, Cure Bloom, and Shiny Luminous.
  • Suddenly Voiced: As Komugi runs towards Iroha, initially, all she's doing is barking, until suddenly a single, clear word, "Iroha!", repeats, not being barked. Moments later, the Wonderful Pact appears and Humanity Ensues.
  • Wham Line: In-universe for Iroha, when she holds out her hand to her savior...
Iroha: "P-Paw..." (The girl places her closed fist on her hand)
Komugi: (changing her grip to grasp Iroha's hand in a natural handshake) "Shake..."
Both': (As they do a Fist Bump) "Yay..."
  • Wide Eyes and Shrunken Irises: Komugi briefly gets them when she realizes Iroha is about to leave and when Iroha tells her to sit.
