The Brotherhood breaks a powerful yet unstable mutant called Nitro out of MRD custody, then the X-Men bring him back before something terrible happens in the future.

Tropes

  • Adaptation Species Change: In the series, Nitro is portrayed as a mutant instead of a super powered human just like in the comics.
  • Adaptational Heroism: In the comics, Nitro is a killer for hire, and caused both the death of the Kree Captain Marvel and the Stamford Incident that killed about 700-ish people with sadistic glee. In the cartoon, he releases giant explosions of energy whenever he's stressed, or just when enough energy is stored up. He willingly submits to confinement so he doesn't harm others, and is used by the villains as a blunt instrument against his will.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Due to owing Quicksilver a favor for rescuing her from MRD, Psylocke sided with the Brotherhood as opposed to the X-Men just like her comic book counterpart.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The X-Men mange to rescue Nitro from the Brotherhood, and in doing so they prevent half the mutants of Genosha from being obliterated, but they are forced to return Nitro to the MRD as his powers are too unstable. has the ability to emit energy explosions.
  • Having a Blast: Nitro has the ability to emit energy explosions. Unfortunately, to due to his powers being unstable, he willingly allows the MRD to lock him up for safety.
  • Noodle Incident: Psylocke was once captured by the MRD, before Quicksilver rescued her.
  • Pet the Dog: Psylocke helped a woman and her kids, who were having an argument with a female parking enforcement cop over ticketing her vehicle by using powers to make the cop rip up and eat the ticket and give her hat and notepad to each of the mother's kids.
  • Too Powerful to Live: Nitro. His powers are so dangerous and unstable that the X-Men had to reluctantly put him back to sleep in the MRD facility at the end of the episode.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Toad. In order to not be abandoned in MRD custody by rest of the members of the Brotherhood, who are tired of always having to save him from being caught, he tells them about Nitro to successfully do a job they have been planning then bring him to Genosha, where he kills half the world’s mutants in one future. Luckily after the X-Men learn about it from the Professor they prevent that from happening.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Nitro. He's frightened by his explosion powers, which he can't control and which he's afraid will kill anyone around him. It's so bad that the poor guy willingly lets himself be confined by the MRD so he doesn't hurt anyone. He's completely unable to have a normal life, or have friends or family, forced to spend his life in a reinforced cell so he doesn't hurt anyone.
  • You Owe Me: As Quicksilver once saved Psylocke from MRD custody once, he has her return the favor by having her try to help Nitro learn to control his powers.
