Episode 75: Excavation

Takes place December 10-17

This is a Renegade episode. The Renegade makes preparations to resist an invasion from the future, and helps Lex Luthor to dig up a Kryptonian battleship buried under Texas. Karsta Wor-Ul, as the only remaining member of the Kryptonian military and the Renegade's closest Kryptonian ally, is acknowledged by the ship's computer and takes command.

In the Paragon timeline, Paul is doing some things that are simply for personal reasons, like buying out Cadbury, or having a game of his time in the Vega Systems made.

An omake shows Lex having an introspective moment after hearing from both Truggs and the Renegade that he's paranoid.

There is also a chapter showing a version of Jade who was taken in and trained by Batman.

The title refers to digging up the Doomsday.

  • Alternate Universe: This episode ends with another alternate Jade, having been mentored by Batman.
  • Brick Joke: Back in Skived, Paul thinks that he'd buy Cadbury himself just to stop Kraft from taking it over. He does just this in this episode by showing Cadbury executives what Kraft plans to do if they were by take it over before becoming the majority stockholder of the company.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: After learning that Mordru may have come back to life, albeit stripped of his power, the Renegade travels to Zerox to warn an ally. They already knew.
Mirabai: It turned out that the combined arcane might of the Planet of Sorcerers was enough to deal with one powerless man. He will trouble us no more.
  • Didn't Think This Through: The Renegade checks on the Rao system via a portal from directly over the buried Kryptonian warship. Which receives a signal from a beacon in the Rao system, and activates.
  • Internal Reveal: The Renegade reveals to Wonder Woman that the Shade has been holding back whenever he fought the Justice Society.
Wonder Woman: We used to stop him by knocking his cane out of his hand. I would have thought that South America would have at least one person capable of doing that.
Renegade: [snort-laughs] Yeah. About that… He… Doesn't actually need the cane.
Wonder Woman: Has he altered the machine? Is he concealing it somewhere else in his clothing?
Renegade: No. He never needed it. He channels the power of the Shadowlands through his body. Since he's basically unstoppable and he only picked fights with the Society for fun, he… Spotted you… All of his pawns, so you'd have a hope of winning.
Wonder Woman: You're saying… He was sandbagging.
Renegade: He was beachbagging. If Father turned up on Earth tomorrow, he's the one being I'd count on to win. He'd scare me if he weren't so chipper these days.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: One of the Renegade's instances of invisible "god-speech" comes more directly from the author, talking about his sister.
"I'd put something about how she met her husband here but I promised her that I wouldn't."
  • Let's You and Him Fight: The Team has divided into several squads that are competing to be first into the site where the Doomsday is being dug up. The Renegade manages to persuade Match's team to help the security guards fend off the other teams, in exchange for helping Match to walk in unopposed in a few days (after the ship has been removed and the situation covered up).
  • Mundane Utility: Terra seems quite surprised that someone hired her to dig a hole using her earth control powers, instead of using them to fight.
  • Not Quite Dead: Klarion wasn't completely killed by the Sword of the Fallen, just stripped of his power and reincarnated. Still, it's not difficult for the Renegade to finish the job.
  • Omake: Lex thinks on Truggs and the Renegade's words about him being paranoid. This leads to him calling his estranged sister.
  • Power is Sexy: The Renegade and Princess Komand'r have a date - digging up the Doomsday's accessories and reassembling it.
  • The Power of Hate: Klarion hates the Renegade so much that it slows down the process of assimilating him. Until the Renegade knocks him out.
  • Truth Serums: Paul voluntarily gives testimony under the influence of the Lasso of Truth - then challenges his opponent to do the same.
