Originally aired on November 2, 1997.

Joe and David are interested in the same girl, Sarah Johnson. When Joe asks David to approach Sarah on his behalf, Wishbone is reminded of The Courtship of Miles Standish by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

This episode features the acting debut of Amy Acker, who plays Priscilla Mullins in the fantasy segments. She would subsequently appear as Catherine Morland in "Pup Fiction" and as Venus in "The Roamin' Nose."

Tropes

  • Birds of a Feather: David and Sarah are both tech-savvy. This makes David a better match for her than Joe, as Joe eventually admits at the end of the episode.
  • Cannot Talk to Women: Just like Miles Standish, Joe is afraid to approach his crush.
  • Casanova Wannabe: At the start of the episode, Damont presumptuously asks out Sarah, but she turns him down flat. This is brought up again at the end of the episode, with Damont trying to play it off by claiming that she wanted to go with him but was just too busy.
  • Expy: The one-off character of Sarah Johnson fills the role of Priscilla in the modern-day story. Note that the show opted to not go the route of having the boys notice Sam, whom they continue to regard as a platonic friend.
  • Love Informant: Of course, this episode is adapting The Courtship of Miles Standish, which might just contain the most iconic example of this trope in American literature. It's paralleled in the contemporary story by Joe getting David to ask out Sarah for him.
  • Love Triangle: Joe and David like the same girl, which plays out similarly to the love triangle in The Courtship of Miles Standish.
  • Not What It Looks Like: This occurs when Joe walks in on David and Sarah hanging out together, making it look like David broke his promise to ask her out on Joe's behalf. In fact, David did as he was told and then just happened to hit it off with Sarah.
  • Shipper on Deck: In one scene, Wishbone ships Joe/Sam, even if it is only because her dad owns a pizza parlor.
