Originally aired on November 17, 1995.

Someone has been secretly photographing Sam and distributing flyers with embarrassing photos of her around school. As the kids try to get to the bottom of this mystery, Wishbone imagines himself as Sherlock Holmes in "A Scandal in Bohemia" by Arthur Conan Doyle.

This is the second of two episodes in which Wishbone plays Sherlock Holmes. The first is "The Slobbery Hound," which adapts The Hound of the Baskervilles.

Tropes

  • Goofy Print Underwear: Damont turns out to be wearing boxers with vertical stripes on them. Wanda observes that they "really have a slimming effect."
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When Amanda gives the Wham Line mentioned below, Wishbone remarks "How's that for a plot twist?"
  • Let's You and Him Fight: Damont's plan was to get Sam to blame the flyers on Amanda. It fails, but they pretend that it worked in order to manipulate him.
  • Sequel Episode: Not in terms of the real-world story, but the fantasy story features Wishbone once again playing Sherlock Holmes as he did in "The Slobbery Hound." However, "Scandal in Bohemia" comes before Hound of the Baskervilles in the Holmes canon, so technically speaking, it's a prequel episode.
  • Significant Anagram: Subverted. The flyers are distributed under the name Hal "Slaming" Doan, which unscrambles to Amanda Hollings. However, it turns out that Amanda herself is a victim, and the anagram was just a trick intended to get Sam to blame it all on Amanda.
  • Shout-Out: To Love Story, of all things:
Wishbone: That's the thing about food and love: never having to say you're sorry.
  • Voiceover Letter: Irene's letter is narrated this way.
  • Wham Line: When the trio confronts Amanda about the smear campaign against Sam, her response is one of these: (while handing Sam a smear flyer against her: "Why would I do this to myself?")
  • What You Are in the Dark: Damont is astounded when Sam takes a humiliating photo of him in revenge for him smearing her all over town with flyers; rather than "play his game", she gives him the negatives because she doesn't want to stoop to his level. Damont is startled enough to sincerely apologize.
