Originally aired on October 16, 1995.

While trying to set up the electrical system for a fundraising event, David quite literally blows it. His Uncle Homer shares two stories from African-American folklore, with Wishbone imagining himself in the leading roles. These two stories are "Anansi the Spider" and "The People Could Fly."

Tropes

  • Adaptation Species Change: In the Anansi story, the role played by his son Ntikuma is instead given to a pair of human twin girls, which also constitutes a Gender Flip.
  • All Part of the Show:
Wishbone: Wow, a dance recital with explosions! This thing's gonna be a hit! Why is it dark?
  • Bowdlerize: At the start of the episode, Wishbone claims that Anansi stories are known around the world because they're "so popular." The actual reason is because of the Atlantic slave trade, which the episode later talks about anyway.
  • Explosive Instrumentation: David's failure with the electrical system causes everything to explode.
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: This episode breaks with the show's usual format in a few ways. To start with, the fantasy portion features two stories instead of just one. Additionally, the stories are narrated by a character other than Wishbone, namely Uncle Homer. In fact, Uncle Homer's actor, Akin Babatunde, appears in the fantasy portion of the show as Baba alongside Wishbone as Wana. A similar format would later be used for the episodes "¡Viva Wishbone!" and "Dances with Dogs."
  • It's All My Fault: David blames himself for destroying the theater's electrical system.
  • Or My Name Isn't...:
Wishbone as Anansi: Hey, best deal in town! Leave it to me. I'll double your wisdom or my name's not Anansi! Trust me...
  • Public Domain Canon Welding: The two featured stories originally had nothing to do with each other, but the episode links them together by connecting the wisdom distributed by Anansi with the people's ability to fly.
  • Slave Liberation: In the second of the two stories, Baba and Wana create a magic potion that allows the enslaved Africans to fly to freedom.
  • Sneaky Spider: In the first of the two stories, Wishbone plays Anansi the Spider as he steals everyone else's wisdom so that he can have it all for himself.
  • Too Unhappy to Be Hungry:
Ruth: [about David] He is so upset he won't even eat.
Wishbone: He won't eat?! This is an emergency! You guys get the Marines! I'll call the White House!
