Recap / Whats New Scooby Doo S 3 E 9 Camp Come On I Wanna Scare Ya

Go To

Scooby and Shaggy go to a summer camp to volunteer, unaware that the camp is haunted by a slimy creature known as The Toxic Terror.

This episode contains examples of the following:

  • Foreshadowing: The Toxic Terror chases the campers, Shaggy, and Scooby, but leaves them alone when they climb into the treehouse, much to Shaggy and Scooby's confusion. It turns out that the "monster" is the other counselor, who wanted to avoid the camp being revamped for adults. That area hadn't been rebuilt and she wanted to scare the owner, not Shaggy and Scooby, so she left the building alone.
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: Unique for the series, this episode does not feature the entire gang — Shaggy and Scooby are shown working as camp counselors at a children's summer camp, and they team with the group of kids they're assigned to solve a mystery at their camp. While Freddy and the girls don't make a physical appearance, Shaggy claims that they're off solving mysteries elsewhere.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: Used in the campfire story. As the Toxic Terror looms over the counselor's bed, ready to attack, the camera cuts to the outside of the cabin, which has green light streaming out of the windows. The storyteller says that the monster killed its first victims that night.
  • Mythology Gag: The episode seems to be one to the late 70s/early 80s era of the franchise, in which Shaggy and Scooby starred in the show without the rest of the gang, mostly by themselvesnote .
  • Scarecrow Solution: Counselor Gray is masquerading as the Toxic Terror to protect the camp from becoming an adult resort. Shaggy, Scooby, and the campers join her at the end to scare the owner.
  • Sickly Green Glow: The Toxic Terror, supposedly the result of toxic waste being buried on the campgrounds, has patches of green, glowing goop that are presumably meant to be waste.
  • Survival Mantra: Shaggy and Scooby are taking the summer off to serve as camp counselors and find themselves in the middle of a pretty terrifying mystery. This repeatedly causes Shaggy to repeat to himself:
Shaggy: The Gang is somewhere creepier. The gang is somewhere creepier.
  • Toxic Waste Can Do Anything: The Toxic Terror is supposedly the result of barrels of toxic waste being buried underneath cabin 13, where the waste mutated and formed a monstrous being.
