Recap / Whats New Scooby Doo S 2 E 6 The Vampire Strikes Back

Go To

The gang travels to an old Transylvanian castle on a rainy night to watch the shooting of the Hex Girls' new music video. When they arrive, they find out that the band is breaking up, since a vampire is on the loose. Fred decides to go straight to trapping the vampire. They do so, only for Fred to turn into a bat. It's up to Scooby and the gang to solve the mystery.

This episode contains examples of the following:

  • Big Storm Episode: The episode is set in a castle during a large storm.
  • The Bus Came Back: JJ Hawkimoto from "3D Struction" is directing the Hex Girls music video.
  • Distressed Dude: The villain kidnaps Fred and puts a bat in his place to scare the rest of the gang. However, Fred rescues himself before the girls, Shaggy, and Scooby ever find him.
  • Five-Man Band Concert: Subverted — the gang helps in the music video of "Petrified Bride", but as actors rather than musicians (like in previous installments).
  • It Was a Dark and Stormy Night: This episode marks the only use of the trope in the series, it starts as your classic Scooby-Doo thunderstorm (complete with crackles, pops, and vinyl hiss on the first couple of lightning flashes), but then it gets more realistic and LOUD, and then after the loudest thunder crash of them all (when Fred leaps down from a tower to save Daphne near the end), the storm abruptly comes to an end.
  • Race Lift: When the Hex Girls debuted in Scooby-Doo! and the Witch's Ghost, Luna was Ambiguously Brown. When the band reappears here, she has a much lighter complexion than matches Thorn and Dusk's skin.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Dusk when she leaves Thorn and Luna out of fear of getting attacked by the vampire, despite the the latter two wanting to continue the shoot.
