Recap / Whats New Scooby Doo S 2 E 13 Its All Greek To Scooby

Go To

The gang travel to Greece, where Shaggy's purchase of a mysterious amulet gets the attention of an archeologist and a centaur.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Anti-Climactic Unmasking: Velma unmasks the centaur believing the culprit to be Major Portsmouth but is completely thrown for a loop when the centaur turns out to be a Stranger Behind the Mask (at least to the gang; Lysander Delmas and the viewers do know who Susie Smythe is). Velma is utterly frustrated and states this doesn't count as her being wrong.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: Velma unmasks the centaur and states the culprit is Major Portsmouth because he was never present with them whenever the centaur showed up, but the scene in which the labyrinth was shown from above makes it clear that can't be the casenote . Sure enough, the centaur turns out to be a completely different person.
  • Poor Communication Kills:
    • Fred's poor grasp of the Greek language and impotency in reading his Greek-to-English dictionary leads him to mistranslate the scary-looking man's lines and think he's cursing him, thus leading the gang to avoid him throughout the episode until Lysander clears up the misunderstanding.
    • Instead of approaching the gang and explaining from the beginning why he needed the amulet, Lysander tries to take it by force, leading to some unnecessary conflict as he chases Shaggy and Scooby throughout the labyrinth.
  • Red Herring: In-Universe, Velma believes the centaur to be Major Portsmouth because he was never present with the gang whenever the centaur showed up but is completely thrown for a loop when the centaur turns out to be a person she has never seen before.
  • Stranger Behind the Mask: Played with. The viewers get to see Susie Smythe at the beginning of the episode, but the gang have never once met or seen her before unmasking the centaur, making it more of an In-Universe example.
  • Unexpected Kindness: The gang are chased throughout the episode by a scary-looking man, believing he's cursing them in Greek. Lysander reveals that he's actually trying to return Daphne's purse.
