Recap / Whats New Scooby Doo S 1 E 10 A Scooby Doo Christmas

Go To

Scooby and his pals arrive in a town where Christmas is not celebrated because a headless snowman terrorizes the residents at that time of year, so the amateur sleuths set out to solve the mystery.

This episode contains examples of the following:

  • Asshole Victim: Blackjack Brody, rumored by legend to be the Headless Snowman. He was an infamous highwayman who robbed wealthy travellers on the road, died because of his own stupidity (see the Too Dumb to Live entry below), and is mourned by no-one.
  • Deliberately Monochrome: Professor Higginson's recount of Blackjack Brody's last robbery and death in 1823 are presented entirely in shades of brown, to evoke the image of 19th century photographs.
  • Forbidden Holiday: The gang has to stay at a place called Winter's Hollow due to a roadblock. Despite it being Christmas Eve, most people in the town had decided to stop celebrating Christmas forever thanks to the yearly attacks by the Headless Snowman.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: The Headless Snowman's goal is to find a load of gold bricks, which were disguised as normal bricks in a chimney somewhere in town.
  • Holiday Pardon: The monstrous Headless Snowman had been going around the small town of Winter's Hallow every Christmas and destroying people's homes, making it reach the point where Winter's Hallow refuses to even celebrate Christmas. When unmasked as the Snowman, the remorseful Professor Higginson admits to his motive of wanting to find his family's stolen gold and tells the town sheriff to turn him in... until a young, idealistic kid named Tommy suggests that, because it's Christmas, everyone should just forgive the professor. They do.
  • Monster of the Week: An Abominable (literal) Snowman.
  • Saving Christmas: The gang finds themselves doing this by solving the mystery of the Headless Snowman who's been ruining the holiday for everyone for years.
  • Too Dumb to Live: After robbing Seamus Fagen, Blackjack Brody somehow thought it was a good idea to evade captivity by hiding inside a snowman in the middle of a fierce blizzard, resulting in him freezing to death.
