Recap / What If Spider Man The Other

Go To

Once, Peter Parker died fighting the enigmatic monster known as Morlun. In-between life and death he met with the Great Other, and was asked if he was a man or a spider. Answering, Peter was reborn with new powers. But what if things went differently?

In another reality, Peter refused to even consider the question, tearing the spider's head off. And there, not quite dead and not quite alive, he would remain, until someone else sensed his condition...

Tropes:

  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: The fight between the Venom symbiote and Peter lasts for months, but in the end Venom wins out.
  • Downer Ending: Poison escapes, with any remnant of Peter Parker completely dead and gone, leaving MJ alone. And it goes to resurrect Gwen Stacy as another "Poison"...
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Uatu states here that the Other is a personification of Peter's powers. Much later on, Spider-Verse would say it's actually an independent being.
  • Point of Divergence: During The Other Peter violently rejects the offer to be reborn.
  • Series Continuity Error: The scene at the very end of the story relies on depicting Gwen Stacy as Peter's first true love, ignoring the fact it was Betty Brant who was his first romance. Perhaps she just didn't count as true love?
