Maeve and Caleb investigate William's activities, Christina researches Peter Meyers, and Charlotte's plan is revealed.

Tropes:

  • The Bus Came Back: "New" Clementine, portrayed by Lili Simmons, makes a comeback as Sophia, the greeter at the new Delos Destinations park, based on Prohibition-era Chicago.
  • Call-Back: The whole sequence of Caleb and Maeve going to the new park (walking into the hall, finding a bar which turned out to be a train heading to the park, having an interview with a host who helps them with their clothes) is similar to William's first arrival to Westworld. It helps that the production crew used the same set of Sweetwater for the new park.
  • Danger Takes a Backseat: Charlotte assaults the agent from the backseat of his car.
  • Dead All Along: Christina heads to the charity Peter left his money to, only to find the facility has been shut down and Peter's donation happened years ago. If that's the case, who's the Peter that jumped off the roof mere days ago?
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: Charlotte has fortified her new hosts against Maeve's technopathy, making it difficult for Maeve to control them unless she seriously hobbles them first.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Victims of the flies are not only brainwashed, but their blood also turns black, and it's hinted to be a permanent condition.
  • Flies Equals Evil: When Caleb and Maeve enter the stable, the first thing we hear is the sound of flies before the characters notice the awful smell coming from the decomposing horses.
  • Foil: Caleb continues to establish himself as one for William (who at first wore a white hat while acting as a good guy in Westworld and then became the Man in Black) by rejecting the hat choice altogether, saying he's not a hat guy.
  • Foreshadowing: The hidden speakeasy Maeve and Caleb find under the stage is hinting at the theme of the new park.
  • Golf Clubbing: William does this to the vice-president, who he plans to replace with a host.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: When William slices Charlotte's throat, the camera cuts to the blood splattered on the window.
  • Groin Attack: Maeve does this to the host replacement of the senator. He may be able to survive wounds that would kill a normal person, but he still feels pain.
  • I Cannot Self-Terminate: Anastasia, the senator's wife, who had been under Charlotte's experiment for some time, begs Caleb and Maeve to kill her which Maeve obliges to.
  • Kill and Replace: Zig-zagged. Charlotte has various politicians and their loved ones replaced but doesn't always kill them. The senator's wife is used to test her brainwashing flies. William likewise isn't dead; Charlotte's keeping him in stasis so she can gloat every so often. She also notes that it wouldn't be practical to replace everyone, hence the brainwashing flies.
  • Mythology Gag: Charlotte's plan to replace politicians with Hosts is based on the premise of the 1973 original film's sequel, Futureworld.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • It dawns on the vice-president that William is more than he appears when he sinks a hole-in-one three times in a row. Then he sees that Clementine has murdered his Secret Service entourage.
    • Maeve has this reaction when she realizes that she is on a train to a Delos theme park, the last place on Earth she wants to go to.
  • Orifice Invasion: The agent investigating Charlotte is restrained while a brainwasher fly crawls into his eye socket.
  • Reforged into a Minion: William tracks down Clementine to locate Maeve and kills her when she refuses to comply. He then has her repurposed into a secretary, while also retaining her ability to kill.
  • The Reveal: Despite having his throat slashed by his host counterpart in the Season 3 post-credits, William isn't dead but rather, he's kept as a prisoner by Charlotte.
  • The Roaring '20s: The new US-based Delos park is based on Prohibition-era Chicago.
  • Room Full of Crazy: When Christina goes to the mental hospital to investigate Peter Meyers, she finds his old room, which is covered with drawings of a strange-looking tower.
  • Trap Is the Only Option: It's lampshaded that listening to the crazy woman babbling about an opera is probably an obvious trap, but Maeve and Caleb agree it's their only lead.
  • Trespassing to Talk: Clementine comes home only to find William waiting for her in the kitchen.
  • Tuxedo and Martini: Maeve and Caleb's stylish outfit when they enter the opera house.
  • The Vitruvian Pose: While in captivity, William is kept in this position which is like how the hosts are created.
