"Just act natural. Just act like all of nature. Just act like the entire cycle of life and death and change and rebirth. Welcome to Night Vale."
There's a parade in Night Vale; a totally non-secret parade, with absolutely no visits from dangerous runaway children, which is in absolutely no way just a front to overthrow an evil, corporate regime. Also, a brief update on traffic, Mayor Pamela Winchell releases another press conference, and the scientists investigate mysterious doors which have been appearing around the town.
Tropes present in Parade Day include:
- Attention Whore: As her term ends, Mayor Pamela Winchell has resorted to calling everything she does a "press conference" in order to stay in the news.
- Bilingual Bonus: Throughout the episode (and even in the credits) there are messages in Morse Code.
- Blatant Lies:
- In the beginning of the episode, Cecil continually reminds everyone that the parade is just a parade, really.
- Pamela Winchell admits the existence of angels only to retract her statement not long after.
- Cliffhanger: Ends with Strex Management breaking into the studio, and Cecil getting taken away by Lauren and a mysterious other man (possibly Cecil's brother or Kevin).
- Downer Ending: The rebellion fails, leading to the capture of both the child army and Cecil.
- Holding Out for a Hero: Cecil blames the failure of the revolution on Night Vale only showing up to watch but not help.
"Today's proverb: If you love something, set it free. If it starts flying around and chirping, it was probably a bird."
