Recap / Wakfu S1E21 "Igole"

Go To

While their friends are in the Sadida Kingdom, Yugo, Az and Adamai finally reach the desert island where Grougaloragran's Dofus is kept. Yugo prepares to train under the tutelage of his brother to see through the streams of Wakfu and cross the scorching island, unaware that Igole, Nox's monstrous dog, is on their tracks...

Tropes:

  • Aura Vision: Plot point, Adamai trains Yugo to see the currents of Wakfu in the world, and he must train by spending nearly the entire episode with his eyes sealed shut.
  • Blindfolded Vision: Yugo has to do this to train his Wakfu vision, though it does fail him a couple of times.
  • Disney Villain Death: Igole ultimately fails to catch Yugo as he teleports over a chasm and falls to the bottom. Subverted in that a following episode shows that he survived, albeit wounded.
  • Getting Eaten Is Harmless: Igole tries to capture both Yugo and Adamai by swallowing them whole, though he's noticeably slower after eating Adamai.
  • Next Tier Power-Up: As Yugo's portal magic improves, he's able to channel portals together so that he's essentially moving at super speed, appearing as a stream of teal-colored energy.
  • Not Quite Flight: Yugo's powerup allows him to move across great distances, even on air, unaided by actual wings.
  • Scary Stinging Swarm: While looking for food using his Aura Vision, Yugo accidentally stirs up a nest of aggressive bee-like bugs and gets attacked by them.
  • Shapeshifter Mode Lock: After being Swallowed Whole by Igole, Adamai is left stuck in his Tofu form, unable to change shape.
  • Super-Persistent Predator: Igole is sent by Nox to hunt after Yugo and Adamai, and he's able to pursue them from Oma Island by running so fast he can walk on the ocean's surface. The only thing that gives the heroes a startup is the flesh-scorching sunlight of the island, which Igole can't cross on his own even with his Super-Speed while Yugo and Adamai can abuse the former's portal powers to appear directly in the safe shadowed-out areas.
  • Thirsty Desert: The island where Grougaloragran's Dofus is kept consist in a huge, rocky desert filled with deep crevasses forming a labyrinth of canyons. The only source of nourishment are tubers, and during the day the sun is so hot the light literally scorch anything making contact for a few seconds, forcing Yugo and Adamai to proceed in the shadow of the crevasses.
  • Time Stands Still: When Adamai attempts to strike Igole's collar directly in an attempt to deal with the magic giving Igole his Super-Speed, he instead triggers the time-slowing effect, though luckily for him even Igole is affected to an extent.
