Recap / Wakfu S1E18 "The Brotherhood of the Tofu"

Go To

Yugo and his friends plan their future quests to stop Nox, and finally officially christens the group as the "Brotherhood of Tofu". As Yugo, Adamai and Az go looking for Grougaloragran's Dofus, the rest of the group starts their journey across the Rogue-infested sea of Ice to the Sadida Kingdom.

Tropes:

  • Breather Episode: Compared to the tense and serious episode preceding this, this one is much more lighthearted and the villains aren't that threatening.
  • Breaking the Fellowship: Downplayed, right after declaring themselves a Brotherhood, the group has to split in two to get their objectives in time.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Eva is kidnapped by Smisse Monde who claims to have found his princess, Amalia pouts, pointing out that she is the actual princess there.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Once the group gets going, the Rogues have their asses handed to them in little time.
  • Death Glare: The episode end with an upside-down, ensnared Amalia giving one to the Sadida Guards who captured her and her friends.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: The moment Eva appears and threatens the Rogues, all of them stare at her blushing and they even wolf-whistle at the unison.
  • Dual Wielding: Being essentially a swashbuckling pirate captain, Smisse Monde wields a cutlass in one hand and a dagger in the other.
  • Flynning: Parodied; both the captain woman and Smisse Monde fight in this way, as a nod to pirate films.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: As a last-ditch Kaizo trap, Smisse and his pirates throw a large number of lit gunpowder barrels at the ship... only for Dally to send them all back, causing them to blow up.
  • Hurricane of Puns: In the original French dub, the dialogue between the Captain and Ruel regarding Skribble is filled with puns focused on "Carte", which can mean both "Map" and "Card" as in "Credit Card".
  • Ignored Enemy: When Dally and Eva finally clarify things, they keep ignoring Smisse Monde, who was dueling with the former.
Monde: Hey! pay a little attention! We have a carnage to end here!
  • I Have You Now, My Pretty: Smisse Monde implicitly threatens Eva with rape after he gets his hands on her. Luckily, they kick his ass in time.
  • Oh, Crap!: Smisse makes a 180° turn in manners when he realizes that Dally has just make sashimi of his swords and Rubilax is giving suggestions about where to chop him. He promtply pulls a Know When to Fold 'Em and orders a retreat.
  • Poor Communication Kills: At the start of the episode, Dally overhears Eva trashtalking Armand, Amalia's brother with a crush on her, and thinks she's talking about him. Rather than face the argument, he spends the rest of the episode being sullen and refusing to talk to her. They ultimately clear things up during the battle against the Rogues.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Single-Stroke Battle: After spending most of the duel flynning, Dally and Smisse Monde conclude their fight with an exemplary single-stroke battle, which includes Smisse turning around, grinning and seemingly victorious, only for his swords to shatter into pieces a few seconds later, much to his disbelief.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: The Captain reacts in anger when she realizes that Skribble's "shortcut" took them in an area notoriously infested by Rogues.
