Recap / Wakfu S1E15 "Adamai"

Go To

Part one of the Oma Island Trilogy

The group has almost reached Oma Island, unknowingly monitored by Nox's drones, when a Giant Kralamoure attacks the ship and disperse the group. While the rest of the heroes find themselves confronting the Kralamoure on land, Yugo encounters a mysterious, riddle-spewing fellow who calls himself Adamai and promises to tell him about his family if he can pass his tests...

Tropes:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: Especially in the original French, Adamai speaks using a lot of alliterative, rhyming word usually ending in "-ic".
  • Attack of the Monster Appendage: The rest of the group is surprised to see the tentacles of the giant Kralamoure emerging from the jungle to attack them, even more so when they're apparently just tentacles, vanishing in black smoke when damaged. After they get rid of them, they do not find a body. Justified in that they were a product of Grougal's magic.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode infamously (due to a production hiatus) ends with Grougaloragran in dragon form breathing fire on the heroes sans Yugo. The following episode reveals what happened and how they got out.
  • "Get Back Here!" Boss: Non-videoludic example, Adamai swears that he'll tell Yugo all about his family if he can catch him first. Cue to a long chase sequence across the island that gives even Yugo a run for his money.
  • Giant Squid: The black Giant Kralamoure who sinks all ships approaching Oma Island is actually Grougal transformed.
  • Glowing Flora: The dungeons of Oma Island have bioluminescent fungi. Thanks to her Sadida powers, Amalia can make them glow even brighter.
  • Grammar Correction Gag: During the fight with the tentacles, depending on the dub:
    • In the original French, Dally uses the feminine pronoun for tentacle and tentacles, while Eva points out that "tentacles" is masculine.
    • In the Italian dub, Dally gets the wrong accent on the word "tentacolo" (he puts the accent on the "o", while Eva points out it's on "a")
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: Oma Island is actually pretty big, but surrounded by an Invisibility Sphere which keeps intruders out.
  • How We Got Here: The story starts with Eva, Sadlygrove and Amalia stranded on a small island in the middle of nowhere, and recalls what happened.
  • Improvised Golems: During the test, Adamai summons a giant stone Crackler (golem) to fight Yugo. For bonus points it's the same one from the opening.
  • Morphic Resonance: Both Adamai and Grougal keeps their color set (white and blue for the former, black with white hair for the latter) when they transform.
  • Mr. Exposition: Adamai promises to reveal everything to Yugo concerning the Eliatropes, the Dragons and his family... if he proves his worth by catching him first.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Grougal going immediately hostile on the heroes when he meets them. The following episode though reveals why.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Grougal and Adamai's shapeshifting and magical abilities are shown in full extent, though the former's just a small dragon and thus much less formidable than Grougal.
  • The Reveal: Adamai not only is a Dragon, he's also Yugo's brother: he explains that all Eliatropes are born from a Dofus alongside a Dragon brother.
  • Sarcasm Mode: When Sadlygrove awakes to find Rubilax lying on a plank in the water, he accuses him of trying to run away, to which he sarcastically confess that yes, he was going to swim away on his mighty flippers (waking the arms of the hilt).
