Nerissa ups her attacks on Zamballa in an effort to enlist former-Guardian-turned-Zamballan-queen Kadma. Will struggles to deal with her father's new fiancée, Serena. Especially when she suspects Serena and the sorceress to be one in the same.
The episode contains the following tropes:
- Agony of the Feet: When Blunk's climbing up a building's wall, his leg is painfully stuck when someone closes a window on it. When he's later spying on Sarina in her workplace, one of the women she's photographing unknowingly steps on Blunk's foot with her high heel, forcing him to bite his hat to prevent himself from screaming.
- All According to Plan: Nerissa says after losing this episode's first fight.Shagon: We were soundly defeated. Kadma will be quite proud of herself.
Nerissa: Then everything's going according to plan. - Destroy the Villain's Weapon: During the last fight against Nerissa and the Knights, Will shoots lightning at Nerissa, and the resulting explosion destroys Nerissa's staff. With only the Heart of Meridian in her hands, Nerissa retreats into a cave where she's cornered and restrained by Will and Kadma (though she shows herself to be capable of shooting lightning without her staff). However, after Kadma creates a new magic staff by merging the Heart of Meridian with the Heart of Zamballa and becomes brainwashed by Nerissa, the latter gains the newly christened Seal of Nerissa as her new, more powerful magic artifact.
- Downer Ending: The episode ends with Kadma under Nerissa's control, the Heart of Zamballa also taken by Nerissa and the Guardians and company banished from the planet. The only redeeming feature is Will knowing Serena is not Nerissa and able to accept her father's fiancée.
- Fusion Dance: Kadma absorbs the Heart of Meridian into the Heart of Zamballa. The jewel quality of the Heart of Meridian's receptacle carries over to the simple staff of the Heart of Zamballa. This results in a staff far more ornate and detailed than the Zamballan Heart.
- Glowing Eyes of Doom: Nerissa's eyes glow golden as she enthralls Kadma and gets the Seal of Nerissa in the bargain.
- Ironic Echo: When Nerissa gains the upper hand with the Seal of Nerissa, she throws at Will a Badass Boast as callback to the taunt Will threw at her when they fought earlier in the Swamps of Shené.Will: And no way you can beat us! Two Hearts to one, advantage: good guys!
Nerissa: Behold the Seal of Nerissa! Two Hearts to one! Advantage: mine! - Lethal Chef: According to Yan Lin, while Kadma is a great hostess to her, she can't cook beans that well.
- Loophole Abuse: It's established in the series that a mystic Heart cannot be taken without permission. However, when Kadma absorbs the Heart of Meridian into the Heart of Zamballa, Nerissa simply tele-transports the former back to herself...dragging the latter along with it, circumventing the need for Kadma's consent.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: With Nerissa seemingly subdued, Will changes her mind about absorbing the Heart of Meridian into the Heart of Kandrakar and decides to just release Elyon. Kadma, confident she can handle the combined powers of two Hearts, merges the Heart of Meridian with the Heart of Zamballa. This leads to Nerissa brainwashing Kadma and gaining for herself two Hearts in the form of the Seal of Nerissa.
- Pride: Kadma's "chink in the armor of her soul", as Nerissa notes in her "The Reason You Suck" Speech.Nerissa: Impressive. Your pride, that is. An arrogance that convinced you that no power, no matter how awesome, was beyond your control. It is the chink in the armor of your soul, Kadma… and all I need to make you mine! I promise you more power than you have ever known, Kadma, but you will use that power… for me.
- Throwing the Fight: Without Kadma and the girls realizing, Nerissa and the Knights have been losing to them on purpose. The sole reason being to exacerbate Kadma's pride, the "chink in the armor of her soul", in order for Nerissa to gain control over her.
