Recap / Villainous The VVV

Go To

A client named Adelita Guerrero came to Black Hat Organization and ordered to defeat the hero El Valiente and took off his mask. It turned out to be more difficult than expected to Flug and Co (much to Black Hat's amusement).

Tropes

  • Actor Allusion: In Spanish, José Antonio Macías (Flug's voice) voices James from Pokémon: The Series. Flug tells Demencia that they're like Jessie and James.
    • Mascara tell 5.0.5 that he has a voice of a typical Youtuber. He's voiced by Mark Fischbach, a youtuber.
  • Anti-Hero: Adelita's reason for turning to the Black Hat organization's help is because P.E.A.C.E refused to help her husband because he is a villain for being possessed by Mascara Macabre.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Mascara Macabre challenged Black Hat. BH was quite amused by his arrogance.
  • Call-Back: When Black Hat appears at the stroke of midnight, a wave of ghosts rushes past his office. The last one to leave is Emilia, from the last episode.
  • The Cameo:
    • Emilia briefly appears as one of the many ghosts Black Hat unleashes to frighten Flug.
    • Plenty of characters from other shows appear like Cosma and Eris.
  • Clingy Costume: After being removed, Mascara Macabre will attach to the nearest host.
  • Creator Provincialism: The episode most densely packed with Mexican cultural references. Aside from the references to lucha libre, Mexican cinema and folklore found throughout (and things like Demencia calling Adelita "the chick from La Michoacana"), the closing montage briefly shows the crew experiencing some very emblematic places and traditions of Mexico. Including:
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: While possessing Demencia, Mascara Macabre defeated two Hat Bots and several clients of the organization.
  • Curse Cut Short: The Good-Times Montage ends on a freeze frame just as Demencia says "Viva México ca—
  • Deal with the Devil: Adelita signs the usual Black Hat contract. The allusion is made even more explicit than usual when at the end, Black Hat assumes the shape of El Charro Negro, a legendary malevolent figure associated with the Devil that is said to haunt Mexico, to get what he's owed.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Between Demencia getting possessed and Flug being brutalized by her, they earned their vacay in Mexico.
  • Faustian Rebellion: Adelita tries to flee with El Valiente to avoid... paying Black Hat. He takes it with a good amount of glee, since it gives him the excuse to hunt them down.
  • Fighting from the Inside: Black Hat needs only one sentence to break Mascara Macabre's hold on Demencia.
Black Hat: Demencia... take that ridiculous mask off.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The post-title card distortion flashes with what looks to be an autographed picture of a "Villain Slayer 616", as well as the first glimpse of V.I.R.U.S. from the next episode.
  • Good-Times Montage: The ending scene has Flug, 5.0.5 and Demencia having fun in Mexico.
  • Homage: The opening is one to Mexican black-and-white films from the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema (between 1936 and 1956), the story more particularly to Mexican B-Movies from around and after the end of that era, particularly those which featured famous wrestler El Santo facing off against various supernatural foes.
  • Interactive Narrator: The narrator argued with Flug and been conjured and dismissed by Black Hat.
  • Lemony Narrator: The narrator is still rather unenthusiastic when introducing Dr. Flug's introduction.
  • Meaningful Name: Adelita's name comes from the adelitas or soldaderas of the Mexican Revolution, women who joined the armed conflict sometimes motivated by a desire to accompany or avenge their families, just as she tried to rescue her husband.
  • Number of the Beast: The episode's end card (done in an old-school black and white film style) shows the year as DCLXVI.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Adelita really should have warned someone about Macabre's Demonic Possession before he took possession of Demencia.
  • Rule of Three: The post credits scene shows Macabre trying and failing to convince the team to let him out three separate times.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Literally. Black Hat has Flug seal him in a container to await vivisection.
  • Shout-Out: The title is a reference to Mexican wrestling promotion AAA.
    • Before fighting Demencia, Flug quotes the song Recuérdame, from the Disney/Pixar animated movie Coco.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: The narrator still has this sort of relationship with Dr. Flug. They constantly get on each others nerves and Flug once again has stated he hates him.
  • The Reveal: The narrator of Black Hat's Orientation videos and advertisements makes his first appearance in official cartoon in here. It was revealed that he has a megaphone for a head.
  • They Would Cut You Up: Black Hat nonchalantly hands the discorporate Mascara Macabra to Flug for vivisection.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Challenging Black Hat himself takes the cake for Mascara.
  • Troll: The narrator is still likes to get on Flug's nerves.
  • Villain of the Week: Mascara Macabre.
  • Villains Out Shopping: Flug, 5.0.5 and Demencia end up having a normal fun time in Mexico after Black Hat ditches them there.
  • Visual Pun:
    • Black Hat throws Mascara Macabre into a glass container. He's literally a Sealed Evil in a Can.
    • The tacos dorados stand in the closing montage is adorned with a graphic of Goldheart. note
  • When the Clock Strikes Twelve: Black Hat receives Adelita at this hour.
