When Valentino has a hot winning streak at an ancient board game, he let's his beginner's luck go to his head until he meets his match. Will he keep his reign as champion or lose it all?

Tropes:

  • The Bet: Val makes one last Patolli bet with the Patolli Master, Xochipili, who had emerged from the board game itself looking for a worthy opponent: if Valentino wins, he becomes the new Patolli Master. But if Xochipili wins, Valentino gets trapped as one of the game pieces (dried beans) forever.
  • Evil Laugh: Valentino lets out one of these as he starts to go mad with the power of being the Patolli champion.
  • The Gambling Addict: Valentino becomes this from winning one Patolli game after another, refusing to give up gambling on Patolli even after he's lost everything.
  • Jerkass Ball: Valentino grabs the Jerkass Ball hard in this episode, as he challenges everyone he can to a game of Patolli just to take their stuff.
  • Reset Button: Val wins the game with Xochipili and has the opportunity to become the new master. He declines, however, having learned that being a champion isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be and wishes instead that everything just return to normal.
  • Riches to Rags: While Valentino quickly becomes rich with everyone’s prized possessions after beating them all at Patolli, he just as quickly loses everything and is left worse off than before.
  • Sanity Slippage: Usually level-headed Valentino definitely loses his mind a little bit in this episode. Even after he’s lost everything to Patolli when his winning streak abruptly stops, he still tries to play the game with anyone he can possibly convince to.
  • Title Drop: Isabella does this when she’s introducing the ancient board game of Patolli to Victor & Valentino.
  • Unsportsmanlike Gloating: Each time he wins another game, Valentino is prone to doing this.
