Silly Sing Along 2: The End Of Silliness?

It is a rainy night in the city at Jimmy's ice cream parlor. Inside the ice cream parlor, Jimmy, the proprietor of the establishment, is cleaning some plates, while Larry the Cucumber, who is in a state of sadness ever since Archibald Asparagus cancelled "Silly Songs with Larry", has been drowning his sorrows in ice cream sundaes, which give him a terrible ice cream headache. After a couple of flashbacks showing what happened ever since Larry messed up while performing "The Song Of The Cebu", Larry suddenly starts tossing and turning in great stress, which catches Jimmy's attention, before he goes to see what's wrong with Larry, before the scene then cuts to the Veggietales Theme Song (from "Where's God When I'm S-Scared?").

After the theme song, Jimmy has been able to snap Larry out of his stress, saying that he really had him worried there for a minute and asks him if he's okay. Larry replies that he's okay. Jimmy then asks Larry if he can get him anything, but Larry says that he doesn't need anything. Jimmy then asks Larry if he wants to talk about it, before Larry then turns his attention to a jukebox, asking if it works. Jimmy confirms that it works, before Larry tells Jimmy to press G7, before explaining about how he was performing "The Song Of The Cebu", when it got messed up. Jimmy pushes G7 on the jukebox like Larry says, which is "The Song Of The Cebu" (from "Josh and the Big Wall").

After the song ends, Jimmy laughs, but stops when he sees Larry glaring at him, obviously angry that Jimmy would laugh at something that Larry messed up in doing. Jimmy then realizes what he did before saying that that's gotta hurt, before Larry says that it wasn't his fault and that they got his slides mixed up at Photo Hut. Jimmy tries to assure Larry that it's not the end of the world just because he messed up on a song. After Jimmy says this, a mysterious man in a trench coat, followed by a woman wearing a red dress and a red wig, enter the ice cream parlor. However, the man's face is obscured by the turned-up collar of his coat, before he places his briefcase on the counter. Jimmy then tells the man and the woman that he'll be with them in a minute, before he goes back to the jukebox and pushes a few more buttons it, to which the jukebox then plays "Promised Land" (from "Josh and the Big Wall"), "Good Morning, George" (from "Rack, Shack and Benny"), and "The Thankfulness Song" (from "Madame Blueberry").

After "The Thankfulness Song" ends, Larry is now even down than ever, before he starts downheartedly singing "It Isn't Any Trouble Just To S-M-I-L-E", while Jimmy notes that he put up the wrong song then goes back to the jukebox once again. While this is going on, the mysterious man is at first stern about this, but becomes mildly sympathetic once he sees how Larry feels. Jimmy then brings up more songs on the jukebox, which are "Keep Walking" (from "Josh and the Big Wall"), "Big Things Too!" (from "Dave and the Giant Pickle"), and "Stuffmart Rap" (from "Madame Blueberry"). After "Stuffmart Rap" ends, Jimmy laughs at seeing two of the Stuff Mart salesmen falling down on their heads while bungee-jumping. Larry is still not cheered up, and when Jimmy wants to know why Larry is so down in the dumps, the mysterious man then reveals himself as Archibald Asparagus, saying that he'll tell him what's going on. Larry is surprised when he sees that Archibald has come, before becoming very angry. Archibald then approaches the jukebox and brings up "His Cheeseburger" (from "Madame Blueberry"), to which Larry gives off a Big "NO!".

After "His Cheeseburger" ends, Jimmy is both shocked and appalled that Archibald would do something like that to Larry, calling it despicable and saying that he'd be in the same position if someone took his songs away. Archibald tries to explain himself, saying that he believed he was acting in the public's best interest. Jimmy, meanwhile, scornfully glares at the asparagus. Archibald then opens up the briefcase that he had brought with him, before he opens it up, revealing a bunch of papers. Archibald takes out one paper and reads from it, revealing that 167,512 fans have posted a petition, stating that "Silly Songs with Larry" be brought back and that Archibald should forgive and forget the "Song Of The Cebu" incident. Among the people that signed the petition are the entire population of Duluth, Minnesota and someone in Moose Lake. Archibald then hops up on the counter and delivers a rousing speech about how the world should know that it's not the end of silliness, but actually that silliness has just begun, before he falls off the counter, while Larry, Jimmy, and Lovey look down to see if he's okay. Archibald then picks himself up, before telling Larry to try not to be too silly. Larry is overjoyed that he got his Silly Songs back, before he puts one of his silly songs into the jukebox, which then plays the brand new Silly Song "The Yodeling Veterinarian Of The Alps".

Silly Songs with Larry

A barbershop quartet, comprised of the Scallions and Frankencelery, sing a song about a man who lived so long ago in the Alps and would help people's pets in a most unusual way. The man is a veterinarian (played by Larry the Cucumber) who is assisted by his nurse (played by Pa Grape). The first of the veterinarian's patients is a "poor sick penguin" (played by Harry the Penguin), who had been brought in by a young boy (played by Junior Asparagus). The doctor makes note that the penguin has a fever and blue toes, but sings to the penguin by way of yodeling, claiming that it will help the penguin feel better. The penguin spits out his thermometer, before the nurse gives the boy some penicillin "for your sickly arctic bird". The quartet then sing about how no one could explain about the wonders of the veterinarian's practice. The nurse is now on the phone with the doctor, explaining that the penguin is "up and kicking". The next of the doctor's patients is a cat who had been brought in by a man (played by Bob the Tomato). The doctor sings that the cat is "feeling nauseous and a week past due". Just like he did with the penguin, the doctor then sings to the cat by way of yodeling to help her feel better. The nurse then tells the man to drive into the city and to "buy a jug of milk for your nauseated kitty". The quartet then sing about how the doctor's practice grew and that his profits flew until one day when the nurse asked for a raise in pay, which the doctor denied after some pondering. The nurse is on the phone with the doctor, explaining that the cat is feeling great and that she had 6 kittens, one of which they named after the doctor. This time, the next patient is a grizzly bear, who has quite a few bear traps on him, that had been brought in by a boy (played by Percy Pea), while the doctor notes that the "bear-trapped teddy" is quite uncomfy and that he might be too. The doctor then sings to the bear by yodeling, like he did before, but this time, this only makes the bear feel even worse than before, causing him to start wrecking the office. The quartet then sing that the moral of the story is that "when you go a little loopy, better keep your nurse well-paid". The bear then chases after the doctor after that, before chasing him out the door as the song then ends, as well as the episode.

Tropes:

  • Bears Are Bad News: Happens in "The Yodeling Veterinarian Of The Alps", where someone brings in his pet bear, and Larry tries to sing to the bear, but this only makes the bear even angrier, before it chases after Larry.
  • Big "NO!": Larry gives a memetic one when Archibald goes to play "His Cheeseburger" on the jukebox.
  • Dark Reprise: After "The Thankfulness Song", we hear a slow saxophone rendition of the song as Larry sobs while thinking about how thankful he is to have his Silly Songs while they lasted.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Larry does this on a bunch of ice cream sundaes, due to the sadness of getting his Silly Songs cancelled. Then he gets a nasty ice cream headache.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Minor example, when Jimmy laughs at Larry's "The Song Of The Cebu" after it ends, before noticing that Larry is very angry about this.
  • Exit, Pursued by a Bear: A literal example of this trope happens to Larry at the end of "The Yodeling Veterinarian of the Alps".
  • Gasp!: Jimmy does this, after "His Cheeseburger" ends, when he realizes that Archibald was responsible for cancelling "Silly Songs with Larry".
  • Headdesk: Larry does this, after Archibald plays "His Cheeseburger" on the jukebox.
  • Heartbreak and Ice Cream: Larry eats a bunch of ice cream sundaes to try to get over the sadness of getting his Silly Songs cancelled.
  • Iris Out: Happens at the end of "The Yodeling Veterinarian Of The Alps".
  • Jump Scare: Earlier versions of the Big Idea logo bumper prior to 2004 has the original roar of the bear played right when the logo's letters pop into place, with another (and less scarier) sound of said bear playing when the A "pops".
  • Mistakes Are Not the End of the World: Jimmy calls this trope by its name when he tells Larry not to feel bad for messing up on "The Song of the Cebu".
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: The yodeling veterinarian's nurse asks for a raise after their profits soar (something more due to his work than to the yodeling), only to receive a blunt "No way, José." The next time a customer brings in a pet (a bear), he doesn't offer the standard treatment, and the bear chases the vet offscreen.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Archibald looks back with regret as Larry bursts into tears after "The Thankfulness Song".
  • "Nighthawks" Shot: The exterior of Jimmy's ice cream parlor, especially during the ending credits.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: After "His Cheeseburger" was featured in the previous episode, Big Idea got a petition from a radio station in Duluth, Minnesota, signed by fans who felt bad that Archibald had cancelled "Silly Songs with Larry". When they got the actual petition, Mike Nawrocki decided to incorporate the petition into the plot of the episode.
  • Rousing Speech: Archibald gives one of these, talking about how it's not the end of silliness, but how silliness has just begun.
  • Rule of Symbolism: It rains for almost the entirety of the episode, symbolising Larry's depression, but when Archibald shows off the signatures he got, thus reinstating "Silly Songs With Larry", the rain stops.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Jimmy Gourd is not happy with Archibald when he reveals that he got "Silly Songs With Larry" cancelled.
Jimmy: That's despicable! I'd feel that way too if somebody took my songs away!
