Emma and Melinda relive moments from the past as Unicorn struggles in the present to contain a creature born out of her magic.

- Accidental Time Travel: Emma is somehow flung into the distant past where she meets Melinda as a child, showing that their fates have always been linked. Unfortunately, this meeting also sets off the chain of events that turns Melinda's mother into the evil force she has to fight throughout time.
- Meaningful Echo: Morgan tells Melinda to "Relinquish yourself to me!", which is what Melinda said to Emma in "A Fateful Encounter".
- Stable Time Loop: Emma accidentally engages in Mental Time Travel that sends her back to Melinda's childhood. As a result of her presence, Melinda's powers are revealed to her mother, Morgan, who is transformed into the Evil when trying to take them, a situation that could only have arisen because the Evil existed in the first place and necessitated the reincarnation cycle that would eventually connect Melinda and Emma.
