Tropes:

  • Affably Evil: UMA Spring in contrast to the other quest UM As doesn't actively harm humans aside from turning them into cherry blossom trees and instead spends its time drinking and taking in the scenery. When Fuuko approaches it, it doesn't try to attack her and even listens to her words before being forced into a third form by God.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Because Spring was actively holding back its full power because of its interest in humans, God forces Spring into a more aggressive third form.
  • Cooperation Gambit: The arc kicks off with Fuuko voluntarily defecting to Under in exchange for them destroying UMA Winter and preventing an eternal ice age.
  • Forced into Evil: Spring doesn't want to kill people with his abilities. However, God isn't giving him a choice in the matter, having forced him into a rampage in the past after Isshin's ancestor befriends him and doing so again when Fuuko gets through to him.
  • Foreshadowing: When Fuuko first approaches Spring, it tries to threaten her by showing her a list of names of those that lost to him and turned into cherry blossoms, claiming that it did so because it got tired of humans mistreating it. The list shows Spring is literate in Japanese, but because it is an UMA and languages were unified into English, the only way it would know Japanese would be being taught by a human prior to the unification of languages. Fuuko also notes Spring wears clothing, something that is also a rule imposed on humans. These details hint Spring is not malicious toward humans by choice, it once had a human friend, and the list was something made when the last time it was forced on a rampage by God.
  • Go Out with a Smile: Spring's ultimate fate, losing his life as a result of the last game but having finally found people who enjoy Spring (Union and Under) and people who genuinely want to play with him (Fuuko).
  • Mêlée à Trois: This arc sees three separate parties clashing against one another; Union, led by Andy and Juiz, who wish to kill Spring, save Fuuko, and defeat Under once and for all; Under, led by Billy, who wish to kill Spring as well while also fighting back against the Union's attack; and then UMA Spring, who is simply enjoying the the falling cherry blossoms as the other two groups approach it. Once Spring and Fuuko face off, it rapidly narrows down to Union and Under teaming up against the Uma.
  • Race Against the Clock: The Union's operation to neutralize Spring and save Fuuko has the added condition of needing to be done in under 30 minutes, as that's how long it takes for one to transform into a cherry tree after entering Spring's area.
  • Rescue Arc: The Union's main goal, alongside completing the final quest, is saving Fuuko from Under's clutches.

Warmth and kindness have ushered in a change
In this set of of rules that I shall cherish with pride.
For I am the spring itself.
