Tropes

  • 11th-Hour Superpower: After realizing that he needs to accept the darkness as much as the light, and being given Ignis/Trigger Dark's power for that; Kengo/Ultraman Trigger achieves his ultimate form: Trigger Truth, which is essentially his base form empowered by both light and darkness.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Carmeara's last moments are rather sympathetic, as her last words are her asking why Trigger rejected her and coming to realize for the first time how warm the light is.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Carmeara/Megalothor is stopped, she gets a sympathetic last moment with Trigger dying at peace and the world is saved as is the Eternity Core without the need for Yuna having to sacrifice herself like her ancestor, Yuzare, did... Because Kengo is the one who sacrifices himself instead to save the universe from the Eternity Core's breakdown. While his sacrifice and heroism is well-remembered by the people of Earth months later, it's shown that his friends greatly miss him, especially Akito. Furthermore, Ignis leaves Earth to find a way to bring the Lishurians back while Darrgon (who had come to befriend the heroes) remains dead. Carmeara would be revived 10 years later through (Sphere-)Megalothor, and is rescued by Kengo and his successor Kanata Asumi/Ultraman Decker, and pulls a Heel–Face Turn by helping the two Ultras finish off Megalothor.
  • Book Ends: Trigger's first and final opponent is Carmeara, though as Megalothor on the latter part.
  • Evil Knockoff: Megalothor summons human-sized versions of Darrgon and Hudram, which are destroyed by GUTS Select.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Kengo sacrifices himself to stabilize the Eternity Core, like Yuzare did in the past, he bids farewell to his friends before doing so.
  • Manly Tears: Akito is on the verge of breaking down when he realizes Kengo will sacrifice himself to save the universe, Kengo in return also tears up at having to leave all his friends and family behind to save them. Even Tatsumi, Tesshin and Ignis can't help but visibly tear up.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The episode's title is phrased similarly to episode titles in Ultraman Nexus.
    • The opening card of the episode (without the introduction song) is rendered in a similar style to the opening cards of Ultraman Tiga, having a purple background, the same sound effects and title build-up along with a chorus of children announcing the title of the series.
    • The Trigger Truth Hyper Key is created by Ignis giving Kengo Trigger Dark's power, similar to Gaia powering up into V2 by receiving Agul's light.
    • Trigger's final form, Truth, is born of him accepting both the light and darkness into himself, which is similar to a scrapped idea for Tiga's own true final form which would've also been a light/darkness-themed form.
    • The final battle between Trigger and Megalothor is fought in the sea, similar to Ultraman Tiga's fight against Gatanothor.
    • Carmeara is held by Trigger as she dies, with her last words being her realizing how warm the light is; not unlike Camearra's death in Ultraman Tiga: The Final Odyssey where her last words are that she wanted the light, too.
    • Defeating Megalothor isn't the end of the threat of the Dark Giants as the corruption of the Eternity Core would destroy existence if left unchecked, thus Kengo sacrifices himself to stabilize it by becoming a part of it, going dormant for years. This all mirrors Asuka's sacrifice in the finale of Ultraman Dyna where he stopped the black hole created after the Gransphere's destruction, saving Earth in the process at the cost of being sent away from his home dimension never returning home until a brief visit several years later.
  • Series Finale: While the episode is the last one of Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga, it still is followed up by the theatrical film finale Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga: The Movie: Episode Z.
  • Theme Song Power Up: As Trigger Truth gains the upper hand on Megalothor and GUTS Select defeat its minions, the theme song of the series plays.
  • The Stinger: Akito looks at the last photo GUTS Select took with Kengo before the latter's sacrifice and muses how the world will be able to smile all thanks to Kengo, before the scene cuts to Kengo slumbering within the Eternity Core, followed by his Color Timer lighting up.
  • Wham Line: After Carmeara dies, everyone realizes the Core is still unstable and will destroy the universe if nothing is done about it, they all realize what Kengo will do to save the Eternity Core with one question after he gives Ignis his power of darkness back.
    Akito: "Wait! You're not..."
  • "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue: As the credits play we're shown what the heroes are up to after Kengo's sacrifice:
    • Ignis leaves Earth to continue his search for a way to restore Lishuria, bidding farewell to his friends and half-jokingly promising to return if they need his help in the future.
    • Yuna, Akito, Mitsukuni, Tatsumi, Himari, Marluru and Tesshin continue their duty as GUTS Select members while now taking care of R'lyeh to honor Kengo's memory.
