Dorako and Gigass fight, but the real battle is about to begin

(First Aired: January 1, 1967)

Screenplay by: Bunzo Wakatsuki

Directed by: Toshihiro Iijima

The story begins with Science Patrol being informed by Dr. Miyamoto about the newly discovered Tsuiphon Comet and the alarming news that comes with it – the probability of a disastrous collision with Earth is 83%! The comet is destined to arrive in two days as well. Even if the comet merely passed Earth, things wouldn’t be much better, as the Cosmic Ray Observatory has recorded strange rays coming from Tsuiphon that could potentially cause the world’s nuclear arsenals to explode! That report reminds Ide of a rumor he heard. According to the gossip, six hydrogen bombs were lost in the Sea of Okhotsk and their simultaneous detonations would have incalculable devastation!

As the world’s nuclear states evaluate the safety of their arsenals, civilians across the globe are ordered into bunkers and shelters while Science Patrol discusses the lost bombs, which they have agreed might be worth an investigation. The same rumors also claim a monster had swallowed the bombs, and high radiation levels were recorded the Japanese Alps after the Okhotsk incident. Stranger still, the radiation levels vanished when an investigation was sent, further fueling the monster rumors. With that, Ide unveils his new hydrogen bomb detector to assist in the monster hunt.

Soon, Hayata, Arashi, and Ide are flying to the Japanese Alps in search of the bomb-eating monster. However, only twenty minutes are left until Tsuiphon gets into Earth’s proximity and possibly causes global disaster. Whatever the case, the three men are not having an easy time finding the missing bombs, which is only made worse by the comet’s rays interfering with their devices. On the other side, Muramatsu and Fuji have lost contact with the team for the same reasons. Elsewhere, the world waits in nervous tension for the comet’s arrival and what might happen. The sky soon begins to glow red from Tsuiphon’s shining presence. After a few minutes, nothing disastrous happens and the sky returns to its normal colors, leading to much rejoicing amongst the world’s populace.

In the snowy Japanese Alps, Hayata, Arashi, and Ide have grounded to take a little break and appreciate the fact that the Earth is still around. However, their down time is interrupted when a yeti-like monster named Gigass appears over the mountain horizon, having been awoken by Tsuiphon’s strange cosmic rays. This prompts the three to head back to the Jet V-TOL and get back to the search. Gigass soon turns out not to be the monster they’re looking for as the H-Bomb detector picks up nothing from it. Then, Arashi spots something flying towards the V-TOL. The flying object is Dorako, a monster resembling a dragon with fan-like wings and hooks for hands that had hopped off Tsuiphon when it passed by Earth. Dorako makes hot pursuit of the plane, so Science Patrol hatches a plan. They fly back towards Gigass and get its attention. The distracted Gigass fails to notice Dorako, whose high-speed flight causes it to crash into Gigass. The furious monsters proceed to fight each other, allowing Science Patrol to get away safely.

Eventually, the V-TOL makes another landing, where Arashi and Hayata head out to look around. Inside the V-TOL, Ide’s H-Bomb detector starts beeping, alerting him of the bomb-eater’s presence. After Ide informs Hayata and Arashi, the two hear some roars and follow them to an erupting cliff face where a familiar monster appears – Red King! Red King had made its way to Japan after Ultraman knocked it unconscious on Tatara Island and had also swallowed the missing bombs on the way. Eventually, Red King fell into a deep slumber until being awoken by Tsuiphon in the same manner as Gigass.

Red King lumbers towards the sounds of the still-clashing Gigass and Dorako, while Science Patrol assesses the situation. Red King has a lump on its neck indicating that the bombs are stuck in its throat, which also means that shooting Red King could create a nuclear explosion! As for Red King, the monster finally locates the fighting Dorako and Gigass. Eager for its first fight in ages, Red King steps in between the two. Red King first turns to Gigass and communicates to the yeti monster. The two monsters form a team-up against Dorako, and Red King goes first. Dorako’s wings are easily ripped off by Red King, and then Gigass steps in to finish off Dorako, while Red King watches. The flightless Dorako still manages to overpower Gigass, forcing Red King to step back in and kill Dorako by himself.

Meanwhile, Science Patrol has regained communication with HQ and are informed that the three-way clash could cause the bombs to explode, so the monsters need to be split up. Arashi and Ide head back to V-TOL to deal with Gigass while Hayata heads towards Red King. Back with Red King, the monster has now turned its wrath to Gigass, who stands no chance against the brute. Gigass flees the scene while Hayata arrives and grabs Red King’s attention before becoming Ultraman! While Ultraman and Red King tussle with each other, Arashi and Ide locate Gigass and destroy the monster with a freeze missile that causes the monster to shatter under its size. Back with Ultraman, the red-and-silver hero is aware of the risk of killing Red King with his usual Specium Ray, so he switches a rarely-used power - the Ultra-Catch Ray. He lifts the monster into the air via telekinesis and freezes it in place with rays of energy before launching two Ultra Slashes to chop Red King into three pieces. Taking the head-and-neck piece, Ultraman flies off into space and disposes the bombs.

Soon, Hayata reunites with Arashi and Ide, and all three head back to HQ. At HQ, Dr. Miyamoto informs Muramatsu and Fuji that Tsuiphon will approach Earth again in 3026 with a 100% chance of collision. Muramatsu assures both his team and the viewers that by that point humankind will be advanced enough to take care of the comet with ease.
