Lucky, the self-proclaimed luckiest man in the universe, stumbles upon the Kyurangers (Currently only consisting of Champ, Hammie and Spada) and learns of their quest to assemble a team of nine warriors, defeat the space empire Jark Matter and liberate the 88 constellations they've captured. To the team's dimsay, Lucky decides to become a Kyuranger himself, and crashes into planet Jugjug, where he meets the wolfman Garu. When Jark Matter comes to attack the planet, Lucky and Garu overcome their differences and become Shishi Red and Ookami Blue.
Tropes
- Action Prologue: The series begins with a battle between the Kyurangers and Jark Matter on planet Crotos.
- Downer Beginning: One of the saddest ones in Super Sentai, with the first scene showing Jark Matter's invasion of Earth.
- Early-Bird Cameo: Balance and Naga appear in the ending scene before their full debut in the next episode.
- Establishing Character Moment: Lucky crashing his spacecraft into planet Crotos, and not only surviving it but also paving a way for the Kyurangers to fight the Indavers.
- Poor Communication Kills: Garu attacking Lucky when he tries to take his Kyutama and Lucky calling Garu a coward creates hostility between the two, but after battling it out they begin to respect each other and eventually become Kyurangers.
- Running Gag: Lucky almost crashing into the ground. It happens once in planet Crotos (See "Establishing Character Moment" above), once in planet Jugjug, and finally when he transforms into Shishi Red for the first time, riding a meteor into the battle.
- Three Plus Two: In the beginning of the episode, the team consists of Champ/Oushi Black, Hammie/Chameleon Green and Spada/Kajiki Yellow. By the episodes ending, Lucky and Garu become Kyurangers themselves and join them, but they're definitely not the last.
