"This, is for your information, an original 1925 first-edition Felix the Cat comic!"

Felix is running a comic book shop, with Roscoe browsing the books inside. Felix isn't doing so hot business-wise, so he asks Roscoe to just buy something instead of just looking through the comics. Noticing how obsessed he is, Felix asks if Roscoe's brain is all there, and he mentions he's been reading comic books his whole life. Felix opens up his head and sees that his brain is reduced to a pulpy blob with mushrooms growing on it. Felix tries to get Roscoe's attention, but to no avail. When Roscoe comes too, Felix tries to get him interested in a 1925 first edition issue of his old comic book, the only known copy in existence and thus worth big bucks. Felix whistles for two rats to descend from the ceiling to remove the glass covering the comic. Roscoe finally gets interested in the comic and tries to touch it, but Felix stops him and refuses to allow him to even touch it, but he's okay with Roscoe looking at it, pointing out that the comic has to be kept in an acid-free bag that protects it from sour air, which would disintegrate it. Felix carefully removes the comic from the bag with pliers, and gives Roscoe a chance to read it. But nearby on the store shelves, in an issue of Jolly Fun Crime Comics, a mysterious figure comes to life and abruptly reaches out and steals Felix's comic book and taking it inside of its own. Felix panics and springs into the comic, with Roscoe trying—and failing—to follow him. Felix trails the thief and orders him to surrender the comic, but he retorts that he'll never see it again because he's gonna sell it to a communist country. After a long chase with various visual hijinks, Felix corners the thief at the end of the comic book and emerges from the comic book, holding him prisoner. Felix takes back his comic book, tears out the panel with the thief in it, and crumples it up, throwing the paper into a garbage can. Felix, victorious, tries showing Roscoe that he saved the comic, but Roscoe is too busy reading an issue of Scat Hog. Felix kicks the comic away to get his attention, pointing out how he saved the comic and that he has to put it back into its bag before it disintegrates—just as the comic poofs into a pile of dust. Roscoe then points out that Felix is even older than the comic was, much to Felix's shock as he abruptly disintegrates into a pile of dust.

Tropes for Comic Calamities:

  • Armed with Canon: The writers poke fun at the fact that the Joe Oriolo Felix is more well known than the original Felix despite coming about decades later by having Roscoe recall Felix telling him he was born in the sixties despite Felix saying his comic book was from 1925.
  • Downer Ending: Played for Laughs. Despite retrieving the comic, Felix's old comic ultimately disintegrates before he can put it into its bag again. Roscoe then points out that Felix is older than the comic itself, which causes Felix to disintegrate.
  • End-of-Series Awareness: In the episode "Dueling Whiskers", Felix gets a clone from the clone fairy, then the clone ties up Felix in duct tape and proceeds to wreak havoc on the city and ruin Felix's reputation. Afterward, the Tooth Fairy, who turns out to be a police officer, arrests the clone and the Clone Fairy but leaves Felix wrapped in duct tape screaming for someone to help him. Despite this being symbolic of the characters' state of the show's behind the scenes issues and what would happen to him later, this leaves the show off on a somewhat dark note.
  • Mythology Gag:
  • No Name Given: The thief in the Jolly Fun Crime comic isn't given a name.
  • Shout-Out: Felix's old comic book calls him a Krazy Kat on the cover.
  • Show Within a Show: Felix has his own comic book in-universe.
  • White Gloves: Felix puts a pair on before he touches his old comic book.
