Tropes

  • Amicable Exes: Bloody Mary to John, though she was hurt when he stopped seeing her (He thought she was dead). She eventually betrays him, but out of greed rather than jealousy.
  • Audience Surrogate: Quiet fangirls out over Calypso and his ominous lair, much like an actual Twisted Metal fan would.
  • Bar Brawl: When everyone in the bar finds out how valuable John and Quiet's package is.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: After the apocalypse, Sweet Tooth locked his parents in his old cell at Blackfield Asylum where they starved to death. He returns and yells at them for exploiting him as a child actor and pressuring him to be on the sitcom that ruined his life before smashing their skeletons to pieces.
  • Chairman of the Brawl: A few chairs get used as a weapon during the bar fight.
  • Double Tap: Before departing the prison, Stone instructs his men to double tap all of the bodies to make sure that they're dead. Mike is later seen doing it to a follower who was still alive.
  • Faking the Dead: Stu manages to survive Stone killing the rest of Sweet Tooth's followers by using red jelly from a sandwich to make it look like he got shot.
  • Gag Penis: The origin of Mr. Slam's nickname. He entertains patrons by smashing watermelons with his giant penis.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: When Marcus murders Billy the dog, the dog is never shown on screen, instead only showing the horrified reactions of everyone watching.
  • Groin Attack: When Mary defends Quiet from a milk man harassing her, she sends him off with a shot to the nuts.
  • Improvised Weapon: When John tells Quiet that one of the Pits' rules is no weapons, Quiet argues that it's a stupid rule because anything can be used as a weapon. Indeed, before the Bar Brawl starts, the different milk men can be seen respectively brandishing a wrench, a bottle and a fork.
  • Knuckle Cracking: While the other milk men present weapons to threaten John and Quiet, Petunia just cracks their knuckles.
  • Lives in a Van: Marcus Kane apparently used to live in a taxi cab with his father.
  • Loose Lips: John warns Quiet not to talk about the package but gets drunk and breaks his own rule. Bloody Mary tells several milkmen in the bar.
  • A Minor Kidroduction: The episode opens with a flashback to 1989, when Marcus Kane (Sweet Tooth as a child) was filming the sitcom. During the filming, he snaps on camera and stabs Billy to death with a pair of knitting needles.
  • The Missus and the Ex: Quiet meets John's ex-girlfriend Mary at a bar for milkmen. They get along pretty well.
  • Neck Snap: When Sweet Tooth Neck Lifts a lawmen demanding to know who killed his people, he breaks his neck by accident.
  • No One Could Survive That!: Bloody Mary was once a waitress at a milkman bar owned by her mother. When raiders destroyed it, John assumed she was dead and never looked for her.
  • Mythology Gag: Tons in this episode. Bloody Mary, Petunia, Pit Viper, Pizza Boy, Mr. Slam, and even Calypso make appearances.
  • Scar Survey: When Mary notices Quiet's missing finger and brand, she shows off a few of her own scars as well.
  • Smashing Watermelons: Mr. Slam does a particularly novel form of this, using his enormous penis to break apart the melon.
  • Spit Take: When Mr. Slam tells Quiet that his nickname comes from his ability to crush things with his penis, she spits out her drink in laughter.
  • Stealth Pun: Sweet Tooth says "Fuck Billy, that son of a bitch!" Since Billy's a dog, he's a literal son of a bitch.
  • Stylish Protection Gear: John mocks Pizza Boy for wearing a huge gaudy puffer jacket indoors. Turns out it's pretty useful as armor in a bar fight.
  • Together in Death: The corpses of Sweet Tooth's parents are seen leaning against each other, implying that they died in an embrace.
  • The Voice: Calypso is not seen. He only communicates to John and Quiet through a speaker.
  • "Yes"/"No" Answer Interpretation: When John and Quiet figure out Calypso's identity, Quiet asks him to confirm it. Calypso forces a laugh in response, and Quiet decides to take it as a yes.
  • You're Not My Father: Young Marcus Kane makes a comment like this towards his stepfather, Wesley. Wesley retorts that he should be glad for that, because he used to live out of a taxi cab before his actual father went to jail.
