Penhall: Why did you do it?
Mike: It seemed like a way... to get those guys to like me.

This episode is different than the other ones, in that it follows the suspect and we view the Jump Street police officers through his eyes, rather than the other way around.

Mike, the protagonist of the episode, is shown to kill a woman with a gun. This woman is the wife of his high school teacher, and said teacher paid Mike money to kill his wife. Soon after, a new transfer student (Hanson, undercover), whom Mike immediately is suspicious of, arrives at Mike's school, plus a new coach (Penhall, undercover) who befriends Mike.

Mike first seems to get away with the murder, but when he finds out the hard way that his new money doesn't win over his classmates' friendship, and he realises that the new guy, Tom, is onto him, everything falls apart for him.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Alcoholic Parent: Implied. Mike's mother is drinking beer or some other form of alcohol in every scene she's in, regardless the time of day, and she's very passive and uncaring, which seems to be caused at least partially by her drinking alcohol.
  • Demoted to Extra: The Jump Street team characters, normally the protagonists while their suspects are guest stars in lesser roles, in this episode are minor characters while their suspect and his friends are the protagonists.
  • Disappeared Dad: Mike mentions his father left him and his mother and isn't in their lives anymore.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Mike feels lonely and desperately wants to have friends; he even committed the murder so he'd have money to impress his classmates.
  • Mood Whiplash: A group of classmates, including Mike, are having a lighthearted conversation in which one of them asks the others who they hypothetically would kill if they could so without getting caught. The first two students answers jokingly "The Detroit Pistons" and "Cher". Then Mike answers dead-seriously "My Dad; I never see him anyway", upon which the other students abruptly stop laughing and look shocked; one other student then lampshades the sudden mood change by sarcastically saying "Thanks for keeping it light, Mike".
  • Murderer P.O.V.: Right in the opening scene, even before the opening credits, the viewer is shown exactly who committed the murder that the Jump Street team spends the rest of the episode solving.
  • New Transfer Student: In this episode, it's explicitly mentioned that undercover!Hanson and undercover!Penhall just "transferred" in, since we see it through high school student Mike's eyes.
  • Reverse Whodunnit: In contrast to about every other episode of the series, the viewer knows right from the start who is the murderer and why; the Jump Street team however, have to find it out.
  • Unrequited Love: Mike has a crush on fellow student Helen and goes out of his way to impress her; unfortunately for him she neither reciprocates his feelings nor even is aware of his.
  • Villain Episode: In this episode a guest star, the murderer, is the protagonist—instead of the Jump Street team themselves.
